I finally got my 19% on after taking my 15% off. I was able to do it without lifting the motor. I sure wish my fingers were smaller. What a pain in the pumpkin! Try removing a 1" screw, in a 1" space, with a 1" long hex wrench!
But boy does that baby whine now! From the sound, you would expect to see a blown Chevy with a big blower popping up through the hood! I used the Goodyear Gatorback belt too. I'll put up pics of my shredding NAPA belt as soon as I can find my digital camera (it's packed, I'm moving). |
Does this mean the clunk is fixed?

No sir. The clunk is no fixy. The only thing I could find is a lot of play in the axles. The axles have about an 1/8" or less of play in and out of the wheel (length-wise) and a little slop rotationaly. I'm thinking that's not a good thing. The dealer did have my tranny apart for the clutch bearing about 600 miles ago...hmmm.

Tim, You rat. This competition will get me a blown engine soon! I'll be in Hyanus later this week to visit. I'm in Truro all week but will make the drive up with the MINI to visit and to have a listen. We'll should have a shoot-out up towards Mary Dunn Road near the CC chip factory. I'd put my bet on the 19% with exhaust system. You need an ECU though. Nitrous doesn't last forever. The 19% is scary fast. :wink: |
I've got the ecu reprogrammed with my AmD one click. Tim has had a nitrous ride with me so he knows what that feels like :smile:

Hey Bisch, two questions.
1. How much Mr. Goodyear do you have to be to swap from the 15 - 19%. I mean it's just cramped space, belt tensioner, cramped space, drop hex bolt, curse etc right? 2. Does alta make a 19% pulley to fit on the hub type pulley yet? Hell... I lied... 3. Since you appear to be a man of the transmission, ever heard a very slight, short metallic chirp when letting the clutch out in first? I have been hearing this for about 1 month now and NOBODY seems to have any thoughts on it. |

Replacing a pulley without lifting the engine is one of those things that I'm glad I did but am not looking forward to doing it again. It inspires delusional fantasies of trained mice doing the job handily.

I had mine replaced two months ago, then I just wrecked the whole tranny |

>> :grin: Lifting the engine is not that big 'o deal, especially if your just lifting to replace already replaced pulley. It would probably add an extra 30 minutes to entire job and you'd save your knuckles. Just remove the upper strut ( and few other bits along with it), the upper mount nut and the lower motor mount bolt and jack away. |
The tranny was discovered to be a component failure...warranty. It was not a result of modifications to the vehicle.
The throw-out bearing is a whole day job. small part, big job. |
I'm told that chirp is from the clutch.
For more info, contact Charlie at RDR Dyno. He's tested his own MCS with the 15" and 19" pulleys and done clutch, LSD, and flywheel changes. |
Is the chirp only present from a dead start? Ie if you give a little too much gas and let go of the clutch you hear the chirp and basta? Or do you hear it all the time?

Just spent the day at the dealer getting the steering column replaced....only to find out that the new one is defective! Back I go next week. :roll: Thank God for a warranty, but this is crazy. |
