Downpipe Size?

I just wanted to know the difference between a 2.25 in Catless downpipe (Like OBX) and a 2.5 in Catless Downpipes made by other manufacturers. OBX is about $150 while others are close to $300. Should I hold off for the 2.5in DP or save money and get a 2.25in.
What are your thoughts?

For most owners it doesn't make a difference.

Which MINI do you have? If a Cooper then any DP won't make much power difference.

Catless downpipes are going to be loud, especially with MCS or with aftermarket exhaust.

Which exhaust are you running?

If you engine is highly modded and your cat back exhaust is large diameter or high flow then larger downpipe may be helpful but you want some back pressure.

Realistically you may loose some weight with a catless DP and make more noise but unless you can tune your ECU I would not expect much power gain.

It depends on what you're doing. If you are trying to achieve more power a downpipe won't to any good without a tune (which I'm sure you know). You do not want, nor need, back-pressure on the turbo. It is a question of exhaust velocity. I think the 2.25" is closer to the stock dimensions, just less the cat. So in theory it will just be louder. The 2.5" or greater is more freeflowing obviously. You will lose a little power on the low end (exhaust velocity drop) but a tune will solve that problem.

Thanks for the help guys.
I got a 2.5in catless and res delete custom piping.
With Magnaflow tip.
I guess it makes sense to keep the 2.5in consistent.

Do want a DP for a $100? I have a Ross Racing I no longer want.

Yes. I am very interested. Any reason why you don't want it? Any problems with it?

If you still have this what would it fit
