If you have a R53 the scorpion exhaust has absolutely no drone and is a couple hundred less than milltek and JCW

AllBlack05S 09-12-2011 06:18 PM

Invidia as well

Wanting this one!

I just saw this on here, and I want it! Anyone have set up similar to it? I would be curious to see underbody pictures and what the cost was!

That's a local car here in CT. It is extremely loud  but sounds sooo good!

Still have to shoot the R53 with the cooper flowmaster and post it.

Akrapovic

Anyone have any pictures/videos of the akraprovic for an r56?

Have always had them on my bikes and love the build quality/sound

skimsmilk 11-19-2011 05:21 PM

Has anyone had any experience with this setup? The videothey have on Ebay sounded pretty good and it looks quality built.

Just got off the phone with the guys at remus and the best price they would give me is 878 shipped... That is a little out of my budget, but still a decent price for the system.

Thanks,

Not 100% but srichs may have that one, if so sounds like the invidia/skunk it is a copy of

R50 Cooper Flowmaster on my R53 S. Pain in the a$$ to install, you need cooper rear valence and arch pieces. you need to modify the rear hangars on the system and it is loud. louder than this video will lead you to believe. Deep loud though not ricey.

So I recently replaced my dilapidated 03 MCS stock exhaust with the megan racing catback system. I fear I may have an exhaust leak. I read the reviews of the catback system on here and people cite the clamps (c-clamps) as being a weak spot. How can I find the correct band-type clamp to fit this system? Anyone able to link me?

coops808 04-05-2012 10:16 AM

Came across this on the web the other day, and I havn't been able to find any info about it on NAM.
Anyone know anything about the Fletcher System?

2.5" piping, Pypes M-80 Resonator, Vibrant "UltraQuiet" 2.5" muffler, Magnaflow 2.25" tips.

My downpipe/header is leaking just after the pre-cat. I smothered it with some muffler putty while I wait to fix the OBX header that I ordered.

I am by no means a professional. But it sounds like you need to let go of the clutch sooner when changing to second and third gear...

But great video. Very well done.

AllBlack05S 06-12-2012 08:47 PM

Her stock clutch is quite a bit different in feel than mine so probably.I'll have to watch that next time.

Remus

Does anyone know if the remus mufflers are visible from behind? I think the system sounds great, but I do not want any fitment issues. In this video, it looks like the heat shield is bent to accommodate the exhaust and the muffler hangs below the rear valance, but it is hard to tell. Anyone have any experience with this? http://youtu.be/zn7_Do26DZw
Thanks...

BORLA SPORT vs MAGNAFLOW

I have a Milltek and find it too tame (even deleted resonator); contemplating on Borla SPORT or Magnaflow, but concerned about drone noise... is it worth it?
Is there a Norcal Meet sometime soon; it would be nice to checkout other MCS rides?

Thanks for the input

BMUN8IVE 09-27-2012 12:30 PM

lol, just got off the phone with a guy that runs a local muffler place, "I've been in this business for 27 years, I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER heard of this "one ball" mod". He couldn't get past that it wasn't some internet bought part, and that it was a simply bypass job.

"Is this like one of those things you put in an airbox to get turbo performance? Sounds like snake oil to me". . .

I am curious about the (19) JIC-Magic / CROSS MINI Cooper S R53 Semi TI exhaust

19. Cross Exhaust Titanium
Review Last Updated: 8/21/08
Price: $1700
Fits: 2002 to 2006 MCS
Composes: Two-sided system, 4 pieces
Power gains:
Piping diameter: 2.36" (60mm)
Weight: 22-29 lbs
Website: http://www.cross-na.com/
Description: According to the website: "Lightweight stainless steel with special welded on Titanium Tips. Weighing in just between 22 lbs. this exhaust system is the lightest stainless steel / Titanium model on the market for the MINI. Special technology that is used during production allows Titanium and stainless steel to be welded together that gives the CROSS Sport Semi Titanium exhaust system a sporty titanium look with out the high price. [Although at $1700, I don't know what price we'd be talking about ... ED.]
Video & Audio Clips: N/A

Does anyone have this exhaust and can comment on its performance, liability or sound? I called the manufacturer and they are will to negotiate with price to almost 50% off.

Thanks

Anyone have any information or experience about the M2 catback system? I've been looking at it and seen a few idle/rev clips of it and seems like the best bang for the buck, just doesn't have the big name price tag.

I thought it would be a good idea to chime in about my experience with a muffler I installed yesterday. I have the complete setup ready for installation (OBX header, Vibrant flex pipe, Magnaflow high flow cat, 18'' Vibrant resonator and a Dynomax VT muffler), but I'm waiting for the guy with a proper welder to do the installation (all stainless). I already had the one ball mod done since the resonator was rusting, but since last autumn, the muffler started to crack open... It was melting the rear left fender well and a part of the bumper, so I decided to go ahead and install the Dynomax VT. I've got myself two reducer pipes as the muffler is 3'' (the only one with inlet/oulet center is the 3''), weld it as good as I can and I go for a test drive. I already knew that without a resonator it would be kinda loud, but the freaking valve inside the muffler... I wasn't prepared for this!!! The Dynomax VT have a valve with a spring to eliminate the drone, well... that same valve rattle when I start from a stop and on light accelerations I hear the vibration of the exhaust (the valve vibrate, so it mess with the sound. After reading (which I should've done first), I saw that it was a common problem with the VT. My first idea was to get the Super Turbo since I had it on my previous car and liked it, so I regret my decision. So if you plan on getting a Dynomax VT, I advise you against. I'll get back with an update once my whole system is done... with a Super Turbo.

banzairx7 04-19-2013 12:18 PM

The information on the pipe size of the Ireland exhaust in the summarizing post is incorrect. I just measured my old system(1.5yrs) and it measured 2.400" OD, not 2.5" as the post states. Also I would add it has some serious fitment issues especially around the resonator. The hangers hit the cross brace requiring you bend it out of the way at the front of the cross brace. The rods that go into the hangers at the resonator are too short and allow the exhaust to fall out of one of the hangers. Drilling and slotting the holes for the hangers to move them closer together solved the problem. The muffler hangers required a bunch of bending to get to fit properly as well as the tip hanger.

I have the Borla Street exhaust (see pic in OP) (it's actually called the Touring, I think, but not dying on that hill :) ), and, though my exhaust knowledge is limited, this model has no resonator, correct? Just the dual mufflers?

I want to get more exhaust burble and I've read that res delete is the way to go for that, but that can't be done with my exhaust. What do you guys suggest I do? Does the "one ball" thing apply to this exhaust, and can an entire muffler section be removed to get the effect I'm going for? If so, should I take out the driver's or passenger's side muffler?

banzairx7 07-01-2013 03:18 PM

You could mount up an R53 borla exhaust which is what I did. It's a single muffler so it's a little louder than a dual set up. Also since the muffler is straight through to the tip with no bends that adds a little volume also. The normal R56 has the two 90 degree bends to exit the center of the car.

Would it be advisable to run open pipe all the way out?

Evotipka 03-30-2015 09:34 PM

I guess a better question is I'm pretty well set on running open pipes, is there any reason that I shouldn't, or any pointers on what I should do with it?

With no backpressure, you'll probably experience a drop in performance and you'll annoy a whole lot of people.

Ended up buying an alta cat back kit. Not skilled or patient enough to fab up my own.

I've scoured the internet in search of a decent video of the Megan Racing exhaust, but no luck. Can anybody with this exhaust post videos so I can get a better idea how this exhaust sounds? Preferably a drive-by video and inside the car.
