StopTech Rotors?

Looking at the StopTech Sport Stop Drilled Rotor. Anyone had any experience good/bad with them at all??

Why not go just slotted aero rotors? I don't know if your doing any autox or tracking sessions but I'd stay away from the drilled rotors (cracking/fracturing from high heat)

Only an indirect clue, as follows.

Turner Motorsport runs Stop Tech on their tuner cars, but also on all their race cars.

So the traditional wisdom regarding cracking does not apply in this case.

If you want a direct clue, call Marco at the shop in Amesbury and have a chat.

I don't track my car, so I've resisted the urge to upgrade (the OEM setup is just fine for autocross).

Kind regards,

Charlie

I think the only reason they're running drilled and slotted is because they can afford them, and yes they have the added benefit of better heat dissipation. For the gentlemen racer slotted rotors are economical, will last longer than drilled rotors, and still provide a good quality stopping platform. Race teams benefit from drilled rotors because they can afford to be replacing rotors after every race.

Had the MINI drilled and slotted front rotors. Got rid of them when the holes plugged up with brake dust the first time I used them on the track. The clogs then smired across the rotor face causing the brakes to shutter when used.

I have a friend who does autoX and track with an Evo. His drilled rotors are cracked around most of the holes.

IMHO- track - No...street, it is just for looks - go with them.

If it is for street and autox use, drilled or slotted or both or plain is fine.

I managed to have stress cracks even on my plain rotors from track use, even the 13" high mass wilwood ones from TCE. Just took three track days for the cracks to start showing up. They are really fine and you can see them.

I used to use the slotted and drilled ones on my other track car (lotus) and they were fine. I have seen some cracking on drilled rotors mostly on track Minis with the OEM JCW rotors and these were large cracks as opposed to th micro cracks I got on my plain rotors. I am thinking that the JCW rotors can be a problem when you have high heat, just the thing they were meant to help.

I'm not planning on any track days in the near future as this is my daily driver. I saw on tirerack that these rotors are $60/piece. Good deal?

Good deal. I have used drilled rotors for years and I must say I have been lucky as I never had any crack. I always use quality name brand rotors like Brembo and Zimmerman.

I don't know of any race team that prefers drilled rotors. I don't even think Stoptech would recommend them for a serious track car.

Anyway, stoptech is a great company and makes great rotors.

Drilled are okay on the street but do not have any real advantages other than looks, which is personal taste. I prefer blanks and use the Centric Premium rotors, which is a company owned by Stoptech (or the other way around).

I have powerslot rotors which are made by the same company and they are awesome. I would lean toward those if I were you.

For OE replacements, Stoptech, Powerslot and some others all come from the same place: Centric who is the parent company of all these smaller companies. Shop around for what you like; drilled or not, and simply look for a Centric brand and you won't go wrong.

Thanks everybody! You've been more than helpful! Placed my order through tirerack.

That is true and Centric makes good stuff.

I know this is an old thread but, I was thinking of ordering these exact rotors. How do you like them? I'm going to be doing my fronts and backs. I'm just a daily driver, I don't track my car at all. I just want the look and a better stop than what I have right now.

Also, what pads did you get to go along with them?
