Need Help with Oil Pressure Sender: Cannot Remove!?
 

so, i went to install my oil pressure gauges this weekend. After getting all the way into the engine, i put my new Huge 27mm deep socket onto the stock pressure sensor, and the dang thing just Spins! the socket has like, 0 grip on this sensor.

I have checked forums and online, ect. 27mm is what everyone says it should be, and they dont even SELL 26mm deep sockets... so, What is going on?! :mad:

why cant i get MINE off? and, if 27mm is the correct size, then, is my sender severely stripped, or a different model, or, can i put teflon tape on the threads to get a grip with my socket.

other than taking the thing to mini, i have no idea how to deal with this. :no:

26mm is just over 1". I'd try a 1" socket and see if that will get it off.

The socket does need to fit well because the hex portion of the sensor is almost round to start with because the corners are flatten (rounded) so there is not much to grip. Also make sure the socket is deep enough to actually reach the hex portion because the connector is pretty long. You should be able to get on open end wrench on the hex to verify proper size and you should even be able to break the sensor loose with an open end wrench. I think last time I removed the oil sensor I removed the exhaust heat shield to provide a little more working room for using a wrench.

its def a deep socket wrench... I need to get a better quality adjustable wrench to attempt to take if off then, as the one i have is garbage, and the metal just gives before it grips.

the 27mm socket fits perfectly on the sender adapter...

im going to also try a 1" deep socket, as it should be fractionally smaller than the 27mm. (thanks 312!) hoping that extra smallness will grip the dang thing proper!

I bought a 1" socket, And a socket "specifically for oil pressure senders" from autozone. it has some stepped measurements inside of it (it gets smaller the farther in you go), and is only a 6 point, vs a 12. hoping between these 3 sockets I can get this dang thing off! i will post what solution works, in case anyone else runs into this issue while installing oil pressure gauges...

Understanding this is an old thread, but as I found looking for input, I wanted to share...I too had the same problem-- it's not 27mm-- likely 26 or even 25mm. Sears sells these sizes in deep well, but 12 point (that will work but 6 point would be better). the 1" would be an alternative.
