Has anybody done an install? Need to find a shop that would do it:grin:
Look at the second photo, it has a JCW knob on it and seems to be a better fit for a street car

JPMM 11-21-2011 02:40 PM

look up CAE shifter install on MINI Clubman JCW on youtube
can't figure out a link

It's not rocket science. It's actually reasonably well documented by the manufacturer & capable of being done by a "backyard mechanic". Regardless, I've posted a link to another install done in KS. FWIW, I have one installed in my Mk 1 GTI, but I bought the car with it already installed. They are well constructed & beautiful shifters.

Flames, do you like the feel of it on your GTI? slash consider it worthwhile?

I love it, but it's hard to say that it's worth the stiff cost. It's more one of those over-the-top mods IMO. I will say that it is worth what they are charging for it though.

Resurrecting a very old thread and wondered how all those running the CAE shifters have liked or not liked them?

cantcode86 06-04-2014 05:53 AM

Check out ra2fanatics build. He has one on his build and I found some more info on MT. I think I Googled it, but I'm not 100% where on there I found it.

If you have the funds for it, it's ridiculously fun to have it. I hope to put one of these in all the cars I'll have in the future

Best Mod to date!

It's incredible, what it adds to the drivability of the car! It may be pricey, but it's worth every penny. I had Advanced Auto Fabrication in Spokane, Wa. do the install. They specialize in modifying BMW's:thumbsup:

I'm new to all this.. What functionality does this add over the stock and short shifter? Would it be better to go with this or a Cravenspeed Short Shifter?

ra2fanatic 06-19-2014 02:34 PM

It doesn't take too much to understand that the CAE shifter is not just synonymous to MINIs. Youtube CAE shifter and you'll understand how great it is, not just on a MINI, but BMWs, Porsches, etc etc.. The Craven SSK is good too, but if you really do have $1k to spend on a shifter, then I'd say do it.

Awesome man. Thanks for the quick reply

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but has anyone see the coolerworx shifter for the mini. It looks similar with a price tag at $708 shipped. But I just found out ECS has the CAE shifter on sale for 1065 right now.

I've sold myself and my wallet on one of them. Was leaning towards coolerwox but if i'm going to spend this much money on a shifter i want it to be the best i can get period. go big or go home right?

But if the coolerworx is just as good that's money i can put somewhere else into the car.

thoughts?

Hi ECS,

Very tempting. Do you know if the shift cables that CAE offers on their german site are the same as oem? My boots are worn and they freeze in the winter, so I need to replace them anyways even though I have the 2005 LCI cables.

I see OEM listed on your website, but only the right.
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...h/25117547371/

Pelican parts have two different part numbers for left and right cables (25-11-7-547-371-M26 & 25-11-7-548-431-M26).

The First number listed on the your CAE listing is a screw. (MINI PART NO 25117527283 & 25117547371)

Hello, I can give you the part for both sides, only on the pre 1.2004 do you need those change out parts. Do you have your last 7 of your vin?

Mr_Mooses 11-08-2017 08:27 AM

ECS,

TD91999.

I have an 05 r53, but my shift cable boots on the gearbox end are worn and need replacing as they allow moisture in and freeze during the winter preventing me from moving the stick left and right.

Height of the CAE shifter and downshifts

  • I love the idea of the precise shifting but i am concerned about how such a long shifter will feel, having your hand that high.
  • Also, i always blip the throttle on downshifts to do rev matching. Do you see any problem with this?
  • Also, how would you compare the throw length to the stock shifter?
  • Also, how about the amount of effort to shift between the cae and the stock shifter?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Revisiting the R56 CAE question, still interested, however, tearing up the interior is still a big hurdle. Is relocating console switches necessary? Has Anybody come up with a good looking interior solution for a 09 fJCW R56, it seems the R53 and F56 cars are setup better to hide the bridge work.
