/\ I don't see a failure either - do the other pistons look the same? IMHO, that looks like a lot of build up for 10k. Not lean either..........

In the 3rd pic down, I see what looks like a ding in the second ring. It may mean nothing. I don't see a corresponding score mark on the skirt that would indicate a score on the cylinder wall.

Sounds like you have the engine part all covered as what to do. I am curious about the throttle torque maps...on mine my afr was correct but the tale tail sign was the egt gauge readings. It had me scratching my head for two months.

So for those who think this had nothing to do with the tune? They have a track record for this. Here is a pic of my #1 piston when the pistons were OEM and after 5,000 miles on Mynes Tune.

Looks like waaaay too rich washing the #3 cyl walls plus not having the oil squirters didn't help either. How was the carbon build up on the other pistons? Sorry to hear about your situation.

"So for those who think this had nothing to do with the tune? They have a track record for this. Here is a pic of my #1 piston when the pistons were OEM and after 5,000 miles on Mynes Tune." Looks like, after the ring land burned off..... It didn't take long to destroy that cylinder. I don't even see any evaporated spark plug on the piston.... well I can see some, not as much as expected
BTW how do the plugs look? must be a senior moment, forgot to ask in the first place.......

I was thinking of new injectors and a Mynes tune before AMVIV next year.
Will now re-think!

#1 plug when the engine popped before rebuild was wet with oil from the hole in the pic.

Shame no inspection was done before the initial tune. If there had been, and it showed there were no issues whatsoever, then the cause of the problems with be set in stone as the tune...

Could be a bit of a battle but I hope you get it sorted. Also, no question the rebuild seems to have been an absolute shambles...

The plugs look normal and dry. The squirters were broke off of their banjo's by the piston skirt.

Unforgivable! Now the door is open to all kinds of mistakes in the build.

.... How much of your original engine was used in the rebuild? ....... I wonder if the head has problems, cracked exhaust seat in #3, I'll pm you later

I had everything OEM replaced. The head was replaced with a MEGAmini Stage3a BVH.

I still think it is just a bad build and not the tune that messed up the car. . You know I love ya Alex, but wasnt your car a little messed up before the first tune too? Smoking on the dyno? Anyway, all im saying is that maybe the messed up motor (both times) caused things to go wrong with both the tune and motor etc?

However i am no tuner or builder, so this is just my opinion which is not trying to bash.

I kinda would like to have someone at Mynes chime in on this thread with some form of defense, I know they have been doing this for quite some time and have alot of satisfied customers and I am really dismayed to read this thread.

Don't hold your breath. When we were tuning my motor, they were Johnny on the spot. After my motor blew, they scattered like rats from a sinking ship.

One thing to all those comtemplating a custom tune...
Be 100% sure you and your tuner are both on the same page...
I know when rmw tuned mine, i asked for a good safe tune...so it meant that i did not have huge gains, but a nice drivability increase....others asked for more agressive tunes or even max hp race tunes....can't say the exact differance is, but i suspect it has to do with how aggressively the tuner adjusts things, and tries to matain a safe afr ratio to keep temps down.
every tuner wants to be able to post a OMG look at that hp tune graph, but for a good daily driver with longevity, a good tuner should be able to do that...
it appears hear that the motor build might have been crap....and a very aggressive tune...not a good combo. But there are risks in modding....and dealing with any company and individual/company/vendor. Was it seems to be partial responsibility all around....but in the end, who pays...the owner usually, cause there is no true way to be 100% sure the car was not abused or raced...a warrenty voiding in most cases. In an earlier post the op said he used 10w30 or 10w40 oil i think....reccomended is 5w30 or 5 w40....would it have made a difference, i doubt it...but one more issue...

This is solid advice. I can't say how many posts I have read on people wanting to "tune" their vehicles without really knowing what that means. I also opted for a lessor tune that provided some HP without pushing the engine to the limits and for a reason... I wanted the car to last. Sure, you can get a lot of power out of the car, but there are chances that it will go boom and when it does, you will be the one that pays. How you use the car really defines on how you should tune it. There is a huge difference between a race track and an interstate.

OP, I am sorry to hear that you are having these problems and I hope that you can get some resolution on this. My only bit of advice that I might offer is that if you plan to sue you might want to pull this thread or at least keep all negative comments to a minimum for now.

During the second tune that Alex did, i was there and i remember Jay tuning it pretty conservatively on the timing and air fuel. But the motor build, doo doo
