Thanks Robbo. Since I don't need one yet I will wait to see what Alta can do.

Over the past few weeks I have been experimenting with the 710D and I have been throwing codes that I think are related to the DV. I want to go back to the stock R56 DV but I'm pretty sure mine is not working correctly. Questions for the forum:

1. Do you have the part # for the R56 DV? Or a link to where it is on RealOEM?

2. Does the JCW have a different DV than the stock R56? If so, is there any reason not to get the JCW part number?

3. Is the purpose of the Alta spring to turn the stock R56 DV into a quasi-JCW DV?

Thanks for your help.

@ Alta - My stock DV is fine, nothing wrong with it, but, with upcoming mods to my collection, I'm going to have to replace the stock DV with something that can handle a little more power. I love the sound of HKS blow off valves, and the hiss they make, but i've heard bad things about HKS bov's on MINIs. If you can make a BOV or a BOV adaptor that sounds like HKS, i'm sold. No doubt at all.

Hi,

The valve is the same for the cooper S and JCW (same part number)

It is part number 2 on this diagram from realoem (this is JCW)

Here is something that Jeff has been working on to help with the leaking diaphram issues. (don't tell him I posted it, I stole it from his office)

It's something that Jeff made to eliminate the rubber boot that always rips. We've put it on a few cars, and it works!

I think the parts are different. I have an 09 factory JCW. I bought a brand new MCS turbo and sent it to alta for modification. I was chasing boost issues when changing gears for weeks. I looked at the BOV's of both and the JCW turbo was a different part number. So I swapped the JCW BOV to the modified MCS turbo and all problems gone. It will take some time but I could probably get the part numbers off of both BOV's if anyone is interested.

Hi,

As I said in my original post, they are the same part number!!!!

The part number for both is 11657593273

If you put this part number in to real oem it shows that this part is used in all R55 / R56 / R56 variants including standard S and JCW variants. Also is used in the R60 countryman.

http://realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=11657593273

If there is another part floating around that is different, I would be interested to know.

Jeff's told me that he's working on something similar that will get rid of common problems most people have with the stock and aftermarket bovs, and it will be for sale eventually. Not ETA yet, but I'm super excited about it!

It's going to sound the same as stock. This part would be made to make the BOV function better, not change the sound.

i have a new problem that started after i got me alta BoV spring installed. at highway speeds when i mash the throttle (say in 5th going 65 to pass someone) the engine torques up but then lunges - like the turbo shut off - but then everything gets sorted out and the power is back.

i never had that problem until i put in the spring and might put in the OEM spring to see if it truly is the problem. The only other thing i can think of is the insane heat we have been having affecting the engine in some fashion.

Are you getting any CEL when this is happening? First check to make sure everything is plugged in correctly on the BOV. If everything checks out, check the BOV to make sure the diaphragm is intact and not torn.

no CELs - but a good 2 seconds of hesitation when i apply throttle. happened again this morning on the drive in. with sport button on, going 45 in 4th gear. the car in front of me changed lanes so i mashed the throttle expecting the usually instant go fast, but instead there was 2 seconds where it just kept on going as it was, but then boosh - the power was there and i was off.

i'll check the diaphragm but i suspect (assuming it involves my BoV) that the BoV is getting stuck open and not shutting like it should...

B, one thing to check is to try cleaning the inside of the valve. It can get gummed up from blow by, and that can cause it to not close properly.

I think if the valve stuck open you would get a CEL. You could take the spring out and see what happens too.
