Better Clutch?
 

What would be better, and what is the differance besides the softer plate and higher price?

There are three versions of the OS Giken clutch kit, GT, GTS, and STR, the GT and GTS have the pressure plate ring attached to the cover plate, this reduces noise at idle, and smooths actuation from a stop to some degree. The STR makes more noise at idle and actuation requires a conscious effort to launch without bogging. Both kits have the same friction disc material, engagement has a definite bite with these kits, the GTS is the more street friendly version.

That is still pretty lightweight use. Perhaps the street version might be ok. Street driveability may be a real issue with race versions.

What's wrong with your current one?

It grinds gears just a tiny bit when i shift. I could feel the same thing on about 4-5 other minis. So i figured when the dealer pulled it i might as well get an LSD and might as well upgrade the cluth while im there. save some cash

If your doing a clutch that is the time to put an LSD in.

Sorry I don't have a better description on my site for the GT clutch kit yet, we just added it this week. I didn't want to put it on the site till I had one in my hands so it's brand new. If you got more questions just let me know.

Why do you have the Clutchmasters kits listed on your site under R56?

If you feel it on 6-7 different R56's I'd say you aren't pushing the clutch in all the way! :lol:


It's highly unlikely you've driven that many r56s with bad clutches.

I was pressing the clutch in all the way. The dealer replaced some parts and i picked it up and it still did it. I hopped in a 2 brand new ones on the lot and they did it to. drove my friends and his did it. My guess all minis do it.

Your guess would be wrong. I've driven a heckuva lotta r56s and never had a gear grind problem.

There is a difference between an actual grinding of gears and the normal notchy feel these cars have.

We had one customer wanting to buy one of our Vipers but hated the gearbox. Its VERY notchy when shifting and can be tricky to drive if your not careful.

That could be it, it only does it as a certin speen in 2-3 mainly, if your shift really slowly you can feel, it.

any word on the release of the OS Giken GTS clutch for the R56? there's nothing about it on their website or Facebook. i need a replacement for my OEM clutch. i think its faulty/crappy and when it eventually goes (HOPEFULLY NOT ANYTIME SOON THOUGH!!!), i would like something with more reliability. i don't ever plan on tracking the my car. my R56 is commute only (LOTS of stop and go with uphill driving from time to time).

or is the GTS overkill? i've read that those OS Giken single plates are absolutely NOT for commuters because of the horrible noise it makes.

any info/help/recommendations would be appreciated. i'm currently on my 2nd OEM clutch and i just have no faith in it.
