Drivetrain Does the Cooper S Eaton M45 have a built in by-pass?
Yes it does, as it is an eaton Supercharger... Here is a description of how it works from Jackson Racing's Website.

The Eaton blower does NOT have a built in bypass. there is a manifold mounted, vacuum operated valve that shunts the blower output to the blower input manifold (neither are part of the blower) when the pressure int trhe manifold between the throttle body and the blower intake is negative ie. the throttle is closed. I photo'ed the valve and posted it on mini2 the last time this came up.

from the JR site: "2. The Eaton supercharger system incorporates a specially designed bypass valve, which is actuated by a vacuum motor near the throttle body, and recirculates the supercharger air flow when boost is not required."
Note it says "...supercharger system...". Superchargers themselves do not have bypass valves built-in, as John stated. Bypass valves are generally a good idea for fuel economy in small displacement roots blowers, like the MCS application.
