I came back from a roadtrip today and had the Service Engine Soon light come on:o . I hooked up my scanner to the car and got a P0171 code, which is a "Lean Bank 1" code. I installed a Magnaflow exhaust about a week ago, but I can't imagine that minor upgrade causing my engine to run lean. I went up about 6000 in elevation over this short road trip so I don't know if elevation would have anything to do with it. From my experience, higher elevation makes your car run richer due to less air. I'm afraid to put my new BMP Intake on now, :???: because that will just increase the airflow even more, which will make it even leaner. Any suggestions???

Doesn't the ECU have to adjust to your mods and learn a bit before adjusting fully. I'd say give it a little longer and see if the light keeps coming on. If so then see your dealer but don't say much about the upgrade to the exhaust. You can always say you've had that awhile. Maybe don't put on the intake until all is acting normal again.
The leaness might not have anything to do with the exhaust mod. |
if it's a turbo charger the freer flowing exhaust will help compress more air
on the intake turbine contributing to some initial leaner conditions before the ECU compensates more fuel, but I don't think it has the same effect on superchargers. it will lessen backpressure enabling a freer flowing flow, (similar to that of NA motors) but doesn't help as much as it helps turbo. id just drive it as is for another 300miles and see if the cel turns off. if it starts flashing (or you hear pings or feel lots of hesitation), take it to the dealer. _________________ 03MCS IB/Blk: 123, Aerokit, R90 17x7, TK5 16x7, 6CDMP3, and a few more. http://members.aol.com:/teined/images/tny.mcs |
