On startup rpm's run up

When I start my S in the morning I've noticed now that the rpm's jump up to almost 2k! Immediately they drop down to idle but I'm not liking the initial high rpm's on the engine. Any way to adjust this? I do have a Sprint Booster installed.

I do believe it is to get the catalytic converter up to temperature so that it can do its job.

The only time I've seen this happen with my car was when it had a vacuum leak.

Every car I've ever owned has done this, ever.

Ahh - is he talking about the normal whaa-o-o-o-o when you turn it on? I wasn't concentrating on my work

I hardly notice that - it's supposed to be that way. But that's like...2000 rpm, then immediately down to idle...Oh, just like the OP said...

Yup...does it every time...even with the Sprint Booster turned off. Not going to be nice when the weather gets down to the teens!

Every car does that, when it gets colder out it will even stay at 2,000 for a little bit. It's not bad for the car. I don't think I have ever seen a car that doesn't do that except my mom's prius

As some of the other posters have noted, it's normal.

I did MTTS from San Francisco to Denver and what was noticeable, not a lot but noticeable,
was the higher the elevation the less rpm's on first start-up.

One thing that may help is to allow the start-up-procedure to fully play out before engaging the starter.
In other words allow the fuel pump and the idiot lights to cycle completely before trying to start the engine.

It seems to work, a couple hundred less rpm's, on my car.

Hope this helps...

I've waited for the starting sequence to cycle through and still have the 2k rpm.
I own another MCS and it starts and only goes to 1200 rpm then settles down to idle. :impatient:
