Quicker heat transfer? Don't forget that the inlet tube is pre intercooler and pre turbo. Drive an OEM car around for two hours and pop the hood open and grab the inlet tube. Is it warm? Yup... Now drive a car with a hardpipe..Yup the pipe is warm. I am sure the air inlet temps are close enough that after the air goes thru the turbo and thru the intercooler there will be virtually zero difference in air intake temps.

Pics of a customer-installed hardpipe? I'm looking to replace my ALTA tube with a hardpipe, and I'm willing to give ALTA a second chance if this tube is up to snuff!

Sure will... looking at your website, it looks like the clearance issue is solved... can't wait! Looks like a solid piece of machined metal!

Alta's Turbo Inlet Hard Pipe

I've had my Alta hard pipe on my '09 JCW since the first of January. It's an easy install and looks great. Based on my ScanGauge II, I haven't seen any relative increase in intake temperature. Of course the temp does vary from day to day, but it seems the typical delta between outside temp and intake temp is basically the same as it was with the stock plastic inlet pipe. Just as a note, I have the JCW kit filter cover with an Alta cold intake foam filter installed.

I just put one on a couple days ago. I did the inlet, the intake, and the BOV. All Alta. All went on without a hitch. I couldn't get everything perfectly straight though, as I'm sure you can see in the pictures. BUT... I was doing this in the drive, in 30 degree, windy, weather.

I'm going to my folks house in NH to visit this weekend though. While I'm there I'm going to be installing an M7 charge pipe, heat shield, and an Alta catch can. I'm going to utilize the space the CAI opened up and put the catch can on the firewall. Just need to get a couple of 3/4 to 3/8 adapters. I think I can even use the supplied L bracket to do it. I'll post some pics when it's all done if anyone's interested.

Anyway, I'll loosen the clamps up then, while I have a heated garage to use, and see if I can get it all a little straighter.

Hope this helps!

I don't really trust the butt dyno. Seems to be a little biased...

I might Notice a little better throttle response though. The BOV feels like it makes some difference with higher rpm shifts as well. At least it sounds like it's doing something, and that's the real reason I put it on anyway.

But maybe the butt dyno is just trying help me verify my spending. I CAN tell you that my fiancé doesn't trust the butt dyno at ALL!

is there any sign of the tube slipping off the turbo?

I don't think it could slip off unless the set screws loosen up for some reason. I keep checking it though. So far, so good.

Looks great! If it was me i might put a very small drip of blue locktite on those set screws...just in case. It is a very precise fit so I don't think you would have a problem coming loose as long as you torque the set screws correctly.
