That statement almost reminds me of watching Amadeus (1983 Best Picture) where the jealous emperor tells Mozart, "Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. But there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect." Then Mozart sarcastically replies, "Which few did you have in mind your majesty?"
I speak from experience.

Here is a rough breakdown and depending on level of power as shown in the price variance of each set of components. It all could be on the highside but its better to account for more then less.

~4-7k for Flywheel, clutch, and LSD(if not already have one)
~3k for head, and custom FI cam
~2-4k for bottom end buildup, machine work(deglazing/honing, boring), new internals (forged pistons, bearings, rods)
~6-10k for turbo kit (turbo header, turbo, custom intake manifold, turbo, oil and coolant lines and fittings, and A2A or A2W intercooler setup)
~450 for tuning

4-7k for clutch flywheel, lsd? $850 for clutch and flywheel, 1200 for lsd.

head and cam 2500

then about 6-9k for turbo build

I think he was adding for installation also. But still alittle high.

I had mentioned in my previous post that it was on the high side and that it was better to account for more then less with or without labor/installation.

big power gains for this car to me are in the 300HP range. you will easily spend 10K-13K

now if we were talking 60's muscle cars big HP would be 450-500HP for under 5K!

I guess I'll have to be content after getting a BVH and re-tune!

theres much more economical ways to get enough power, fun power, speed power, without having to drop tons of money. my mini has come along way since stock and is very fun, reliable, and fast. you want blinding fast speed and huge horsepower do urself a favor and get a rwd car, with a v8 or some big turbos.

Haha, It's funny that you say that because I just got rid of my 3800 lbs, pig of a car, 6.0 liter 400hp LS2 V8, 6spd, rear wheel drive 2005 GTO for my current mini. That doesn't mean I don't want more power out of my mini.

No doubt that is true, but there is something fun about making a 1.6 liter car run with the big boys. The look on their faces is priceless

Honestly, these cars are fun to drive with average bolt on mods. there not fast but peppy enough to be fun. Once you go past that, the expense is so great that it's not worth doing IMO.
And you entitled to your opinion. And your price range is fine if you are talking parts only for a reliable conversion. That doesn't include labor, tune, suspension, brakes, etc, etc.

More reasonable range CM. I figure I have about $20k under the hood including tuning and labor costs, if I had paid to have it done, rather than do it myself with Hubie.

Keep in mind that without proper suspension ($1k+), brakes ($1k+), and driving school (skys the limit) you are risking life and limb putting this kind of power through a 1.6L.

I don't post around here much anymore. Too much bench racing and planning that all ends up in people doing nothing to push the envelope on their cars and the R53 platform. Mine currently puts 300+ to the wheels on pump gas an 20lbs. It's well over 400 on 100 octane and 30lbs. I get 28mph city/35mpg highway. I can pass emissions in AZ. It works.

End transmission.

BIG Power Gains?

IMO the best power gain, Bank for the buck would be to wait till LongBoard is done with his Mini and buy that one from him so he can start another project.
