As far as im aware as long as the boost pressure on a stock S is 17-18psi it should be fine baring in mind though there are alot more things envolved in tuning than just boost which is why i think Alta mite not be what i was looking for.

I got my JCW turbo from MINISPARESUK i got a good deal on it and he also offered to buy my old one back from me for £200 which is a result. As for warranty it would be void but i must say that the turbo's are identicle looking and doubt BMW would randomly take the turbo off and inspect it to the extent they would find out for no reason, but you can never be too careful with warranty.

Sooo youre saying the turbo internals are made of adamantium? How does the internals get stronger? Both the JCW turbo and the OE turbo have journal bearings. As far as we can see (I havent counted the fins yet) the only difference is the compressor wheel/housing.

Will the JCW tune see more boost or just ignition timing and fuel adjustments ?

I talked to Jeff a bit more today (that guy is a wealth of knowledge) about the numbers I quoted. From what I understood the peak boost would be around 20 and taper off to 16ish. As with the JCW turbo/tune the car peaks to 19 and tapers. I am sure Jan and the other tuner dudes see the same thing. As for "tuner A makes 30hp and tuner B makes 27.5 hp and yet tuner C makes 20hp, a dyno graph has an infinite amount of points to record information at. The horsepower I quoted was peak HP. Our tuning can produce 30hp at lower RPM with a great gain in torque as well. I dont want to get into too many specifics without proof, such as a dyno graph. Just know that we are working on our tune to be a great increase in power/performance for your MINI!

I was in the middle of typing a response Stig, it takes more than four minutes to type a response sometimes. The short answer is probably all three.

We will only supply maps if you a stubby antenna...since these add 15hp. (Meth/water injection is a bit trickier to tune but I am sure we will work on this as well)

Craven sent me a free stubby antenna, will that lower my hp with the alta tune ?

So for meth a custom tune would be better ?

I think it depends on the level of mods. I'm definitely not a pro when it cometh to the tunes. I will try and get ALTA2 to respond to this question sometime today!

I am having it fitted and tuned next tuesday so will let you know. As for the Snide remark from Jarid (Very professional by the way), The internals are stronger. Over here they have been looked at very closely and the main reason they are stronger is due to not having to work as hard to get a higher boost output. If you pushing 20psi on the standard turbo, be prepared for problems as we have over here a few times already. I certainly wont but any Alta parts now considering how rude and childish you are with your comebacks.

Sorry if you thought I was rude PRIMINISTAR. I made a joke about adamantium. I was simply asking you to back up your information on the turbo differences. There is soo much misinformation on the internet that it is sometimes hard to sift thru info to find the truths. I have an OE turbo and a JCW turbo side by side at my desk and for one thing there are exactly the same amount of fins on each compressor wheel. You are correct as the material might be different but I cannot find how or what it is. Again I apologize for typing rude.

Fair do's, i except your apology. I think the material is different. Also i think there is another set of fins or they are bigger or something. P-Torque said something about them being only slightly different but you would notice if you knew what you were looking for. I haven't had a chance to have mine side by side yet but will report back if a find any visible differences.

It wouldn't surprise me if the housing and/or wheel diameters were what the differences were, so as to get the higher power at a slightly higher rpm with less heat than a stock S turbo.

The ~30/30 I quoted from RMW was peak horsepower as well. If you want to talk about gains at various points on the dyno plot....theres almost ~50hp gain @6300 ...and trust me you feel it.

All I'm saying is you guys have been hyping this tune up since forever ago, so I think people are hoping for a bit more out of it than what you mentioned. But we shall see.

A friend of mine is currently running an 07 R56 turbo on a custom dune buggy motor project of his...it's running 23 psi at full bore and has gone through two racing seasons no problems...

Not sure how he mounted it or what motor it's on...I just know he got it from a totalled 07 MCS.
