101k on the mini and some maintainance Q's
My 04 MCS just broke 101 and I celebrated with a beer and an oil change. I've been doing what seems like days of research on this page and I'm left with even more questions. The car has an alta cai, alta 15% and I'm looking at getting a one-ball in the next few weeks. So...
I need new plugs but the amount of info on this site has me fusterclucked. I'd like to go with ngk's but which one. I'm good for going a stage cooler and iridium but what part number? Ive heard BKR7EIX-11 and BKR7EQUP. Can I get some recommendations on which would be better with my mods? Any other maintainance needed? I've been through the chilton manual but it states alot of fluids are "lifetime" at this time what should be flushed, changed etc? Thanks for the info, John |
congrats  mine's about to hit 100k soon, too so i'm thinking about the same thing. bkr7equp's are the jcw 4-ground plugs. they are made by ngk but if you go to the wrong place (as i did) you'll get ripped off buying them. but you can find them on ngk.com pretty cheap. iridiums are ZFR6FIX-11 according to that site. there's also the double platinum if you want to go all out PZFR6F-11. the owner's manual and the bentley book has some recommendations, but i'm too lazy to go look it up right now. one thing you *might* want to think about doing may be the o2 sensors, which supposedly need to be replaced ever 100k. i think i'll wait 'till they fail. maybe a radiator flush and t-stat swap?

As for fluids, if none of them have been flushed, you may want to go for all of them. The coolant, trans fluid, brake fluid, psteering fluid...etc. 100k miles IMO is nearing the end of life of most fluids.

both plugs u named will work. the bkr7equp are what came on JCW minis. the bkr7eix are iridium plugs. they are easier to find that the equp. and the 7 designation is the cold range. 6 is factory, 7 is one step colder, and 8 is 2 steps colder.

Thanks Guys, I hit 100k about 7 miles south of the georgia/florida border.
I'm definitely doing all the fluids in the next few weeks. The biggest Q I had was which plug to go with. I'd like iridium but I'm confused on the sheer amount of part numbers thats been thrown out there. Which gap, +4's, iridium, etc. |
