all this talk of modification to the powertrain...

I know the mini manual trans is not rated too high for newton meter torque input. i can understand exceeding the trans rating a little but some people here are tossing it out the window. How is this possible? are people here getting an upgraded trans built? the mini is sweet but i worry sometimes when i buy something to up the HP/torque numbers that this particular component could be the one that pops my trans. ---unfortunately i cant stop modding. I caught the fever now and theres no cure. mabe someone can put my mind to rest on this one? I CANT be alone in thinking about this.

24000 Miles of banging on it with loads of track days and no tranny issues. Fluid was changed to Royal Purple and gets changed every 15k miles.

The Getrag 6sp is pretty darn strong. Others with more power have been abusing them longer than me with no issues. CV Joints and Clutches seem to give up the ghost before the tranny internals. That helps to make it somewhat self limiting and protects the transmission.

Getrag 6 speed transmission is quite good and strong but not completely bullet proof if you go beyond resonable power levels. Clutches can wear out, depends on use or abuse.

Certainly there are some MCS modded with turbo kits or the equivalent far past 300 HP running stock manual transmissions and doing very well.

Realize that traction can be a problem if you increase power and torque way beyond stock levels and your tires are not up to the task of gripping or you have poor road surfaces.

The best advice I can give you is whenever you think of doing mods to your MCS you MUST be careful and think first of "Balanced" upgrading.

Sure you can easily add more power but to what end? So you can spin your wheels or go faster in a straight line?

The key to the MINI is in superb handling so go with it's strength and do suspension and wheel/tire upgrades if you have already done some power upgrades.

Need more stopping power? Get better brake pads and change to a brake fluid that can handle more heat (higher boiling point).

Keep weight down to a minimum.

Don't under estimate how much tires can make a difference both for performance and for comfort.

thanks, i already got rid of runflats and run 16" wheels. I am by no means saying i have enough power to pop my trans, i was just a concern i had especially after reading the recent "320 HP " threads.

There are people running a LOT more HP than that on the stock transmissions .

I wouldn't worry about it. It's much the same as the head included with the JCW kits. There's a reason that a head, tune, injectors, airbox, exhaust, and pulley on the JCW kit barely outperforms a 15% pulley, CAI, and a tune. The head they include is a joke, it's just to say that there's an expensive part included.
