Drivetrain pulley install gone bad, hub stuck but not on shaft
pulley install gone bad, hub stuck but not on shaft
Hey guys,
I'm glad I got as far as I did today so I have all weekend to fix things. Anyway, I'm in the middle of installing a 2-piece supercharger pulley, I heated up the hub in the oven, went to install and the hub only make it maybe a quarter of the way onto the sc shaft and it got stuck. Can't get it off and can't continue on. I think a small torch could help motivate it, but I don't have a plumbers torch handy, any ideas??? Has anyone else ran into this issue?
Thanks Much,
Joe

Maybe fab up a small puller to pull it off?
Did the hub not go on at all without heating it? When I did mine, there was no heat required.
I see you're in Philly, the Flyers just shut out the Devils. Woo-Hoo!

Just a thought. How 'bout trying a small butane torch like the one used for Creme Brule' ? Your other half may have one sitting there (mine does).
Home Depot has them for very reasonable.
I cheated.. Got my 15% installed by Alta at AMVIV.. Thought that was a better soluiton at a great price and no fooling with it by me.!

If you chose to bail out at least your close to Helix, maybe something you should consider.
Can't understand why anyone would do a heat shrink pulley these days anyway.

I heated it up in the oven. I think that there may be some burrs on the slits cut down the hub. It's a 16% pulley, maybe I'll sand down the inside really well when I get it off. I'll try the longer bolt route tomorrow and press it off, sand it down to get the burrs off and try again. I'll try without heat before trying heat again. Should these things just slide on without much force, like a ring going onto a finger? Or should I expect resistance and have to heat it up? Thanks guys.

if it's meant to be heated, then heat it . use some map gas if you don't have a torch. try to heat it more before putting it on this time . also with motor bearing shafts on elevators we have to use dry ice on the shafts some times to shrink them a bit. sounds funny but it works.

Call M7, you should not have to heat these to get them on. (562)608-8123

I got it off using longer bolts through the threaded holes. Then I dremeled the inside enough for it to slip on with ease. Everything else installed fine with a goodyear 4060537 belt. The tensoner was at about the same spot is was stock with the whole hole showing. Peak boost is now around 14 PSI, haven't had a chance to really test it out, just a confidence building drive. Next on the mod list is the one-ball, plugs, and a good tune. Thanks for all the help.

Usually it would run at about 9 psi until the rpms built up, then it would peak at 10 or 11. I'll see what it will get up to next week on the way to work. Definatly quicker and the high pitch alta whistle may be gone now
, yet to be verified during my normal driving style to work.
