Does deleting the second cat make it illegal and does it not allow your car to pass emissions (at least in Texas).

It might be illegal. I figured I have another 5 years to worry about smog testing the car so I'll deal with it then. Talking with some mechanics that are familiar with the MINIs, they think that having just the one cat may still pass mustard, but only time will tell.

i thought CA was 4 years for the first smog. I'd consider a DP, but i dont want to fail the visual as well.

The purpose for having a precat up front is because it heats up quicker and comes online sooner vs having one in the back. Ford v8 have 4 cats, two on each side. The OEM replacement for them (non performance) replaces the two cats on each bank with one cat on each. So from 4 you go down to 2 total.

I thi nk the main cat on this setup is the one in the DP because the o2 sensor is right behind it. Some cars with two cats tend to have the o2 behind both.

Good to know... I can definitely relax more knowing that my car will pass the test with one cat..

I thought that vid was quite funny...specially the 12" round tip that does not match the car at all.

I don't have any new vids of my exhaust...I'll take some soon

But I do have one of my girl's car after her new DP..

so here it is

I'm just thinking about getting the muffler and tips and leaving the stock 2.5" piping? Since I figure the power increase will be negligible, and it's more for sound. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Any exhaust shop recommendations around the San Francisco bay area? if not I will probably just make the drive to Sacramento, but with gas prices, that's half an exhaust right there

My mistake. I thought it was 2.5". Is that .2" going to be a big difference?

Didn't want to create a whole new thread for this questions, so I'm hoping somebody can answer this. Is it possible to bring up the stock exhaust for now so it sits tighter in the groove that was made for it without doing any welding or anything like that? Hopefully this makes sense. Let me know. Thanks.

The stock exhaust and tips sit down so low, there is a pretty big gap between the stock tips and the bottom of the bumper. I'm just wondering if there is a way to lift it up without welding.

Ohhhh I gotcha. Yea I don't think there is anyway to adjust them upward. The entire stock exhaust is one piece and is pretty fixed in where it sits.

You can try bending the hangers in the rear down so it moves muffler up.

Hey everyone, my MCS should be here within 2 weeks! so excited. i've spent day and night on NAM now (not literally, but a lot! haha), anyhow, i have a magnaflow system on my audi a6 now, and love the sound compared to others, miltek/borla/etc. I was looking to do a custom magnaflow setup and came about this thread, how perfect.
I love the looks of the tips- What I plan on doing - 35121 magnaflow tips, with magnaflow muffler- im thinking no resonator (for now) , and possibly a 2nd cat delete.

The only difference from what everyone is doing here, is going 2.5" vs 3". For one, less backpressure, which is better for the turbo and low end torque. I know everyone who has done 3" has said they havent felt differences, but what about gas mpg etc?

Anyone here have this setup with 2.5" piping and 2.5" outlets (12268 magnaflow) ?

And, anyone around the Boston area have a suggestion for a muffler shop? (i dont want to go to meineke to do this job... if i dont have to)

TIA everyone! (and congrats to my first post! haha, it had to be a mod related post of course)

My MPG dramatically decreased from 32+ to about 17 for the first tank...but I have a slight hint that my foot stuck to the floorboard was what made the big difference.

In reality during regular driving, my typical drive is about 40/60 split city/highway. I average 31 mpg hand calculated and with the OBC about 33...

What a couple of us have been able to do is piece out and print all the components and have a muffler shop match or beat the price of the parts while also doing the piping, so no need to wait and bring everything to them.

Around town I´ve gone to the same muffler shop and they´ve done my r56, my fiances, and a couple of friends frmot he local car club. All between the range of $320-$370

just a quick thought would the magnaflow tips part #35121, that have a 4" outlet, still fit on a jcw body kit? is the space where the exhaust exits the same width as stock?

only thing is ......im kinda jealous of the catless dp he made on my other mini :( lol it sounds great and you can definately feel and hear the difference between his mini and mine.
