Hi i've posted in this thread a couple of times and i'm finally just about to get this done. I have been talking to a shop recently and they sound very good and i have heard that they do very good work. The only problem is that they use aluminized piping.

I'm kind of a nuwb so i was wondering if its really that big of a deal compared to it being stainless steel?

I did ask him about SS piping and he said it would cost more money

spend the extra on the 304 stainless. make sure they dont use 303 SS also. aluminized will rust at the connections within 2yrs.
of course that was living thru NewEngland winters....but since you're in TX you could get more life out of it.

That's correct. Actually, I followed your set-up exactly (i.e., sans 2nd cat) and they did a straight shot (two or three) rather than bending like OEM, or how you had it. I'll try and post some pics later

Did the welds come out clean, and are the tips even (im OCD about that kind of stuff)
---

has anyone used a #12278 muffler? I'm thinking of using the single walled round angle cut tips (#35131) instead of the double walled tips.

As lxjose9xl stated, aligning the tips took a long time, and the welds are very good.

Ok so I have a question. According to MotoringFile and other posters on here the return of the burble in the JCW factory car is down to the way the ECU is tuned. If upon inspecting the full JCW system it's determined that it's too restrictive and putting a better TBE system in it would yield more ponies then would the addition of said system have any impact on the retention of the burble or would it disappear all of a sudden?

Yes. The muffler shop sprayed black high temp paint to protect the weld areas. As an after though, silver or stainless colored paint probably would have been better And they did use 304 SS.

And if you don't mind me asking sunman was the pricing close to what others in the thread have been getting?

The reason i ask is because i have been quoted in the $350 - $400 range but the shop uses aluminized piping instead of 304 SS and told me i would have to pay extra to get SS. Do you think aluminized is fine or is getting SS really that important? if so, why?

... sorry for shooting you with so many questions but i appreciate the help!

aluminized is what the majority of the exhaust systems are made out of. NExt is 409stainless and its rare to find a 304 stainless. If a magnet sticks to it , its not real 304 stainless. ALuminized setup will last you many years, especially in TX where its dry weather. WHat cause an issue with aluminized is salt that is layed on the streets where it snows.

Save your self the $ and go with the aluminized.

I totally agree with that. The burble is caused by fuel lighting off in teh manifold if i recallwhen you let off the gas. You can put any exhaust on it and it will still burble. The bigger the more the burble.

Not a problem... It looked and felt like (heavy) 304, and I thought I saw the stamp somewhere, but I could be wrong. Let me do the magnet test and I'll let you know.

As far as pricing, it is what everyone is getting quoted here in this thread, but I had to haggle a bit in the end.

Great Thanks for all the help! My muffler is here and the tips should be here in a couple of days. I'm going on vacation for two weeks but will get this exhaust on asap and will post some pics.(although the pics will be quite repetative in this thread , cuz i'm getting the exact same setup but cat-back due to leasing issues )

anyway thanks and happy motoring

Tyler

EDIT: Oh sorry didn't read farther up... Thank you Hector from Exhaust Depot
