My New Quiet 3in Exhaust....

Please ALTA come out with a louder SPORT exhaust, I just put this on and the BOV is more audible!!!!! Dont get me wrong, its nice, but some of us want deep and loud. My BOV is the prominet sound in this video, and I agree the exhaust sounds better than a honda or most other Asian imports which do sound like a fart in a can, HOWEVER, I just want More Growl....GRRRRRR

I'm assuming you want it this loud http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=572ZL3XfF-I

Do you have only the cat-back or TBE? From what i've read, the cat-backs are pretty tame in sound and most of the grunt and loudness is by upgrading the downpipe as well.

that video is with a magnaflow exhaust from the stock DP back. In the video comments it says "A little drone on the highway, might be adding a resonator along with the aftermarket Dp in a couple weeks to quiet down the sound".

that's actually my car. It's a custom 3 inch SS piping with a magnaflow exhaust.

The downpipe is stock. but it is straight piping from the end of the DP back. so the resonator is deleted as well as the second cat.

Do you throw up any error codes from the lack of the CAT???

If you remove the 2nd cat no. Car has had 6k+ miles since no issues. If you were to remove the 1st cat then you definitely would.

BTW there are pics in my gallery of teh exhaust system under the car if you'd like to see.

The only problem w/ your exhaust is....If I do something like this, I'll most likely loose my license because my foot WILL BE BURIED to the floor board, my ankle might get stuck!
I truily LOVE your EXHAUST modification. Some people prefer to play it safe and play it by the book. This is a fine example of REAL IMPORT TUNING, Whats the Next upgrade?

Yeah I definitely agree with you. I try leave the performance driving for the track and another thing helping are the gas prices. The more they go up, the lighter my foot becomes.

Thank you for the compliments. Just installed a boost gauge on the wife's car. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=130003

Looking to do it on mine as well. next would be Alta ECU and either DP or Intercooler.

where did you get that exhaust made up at? My problems with the Alta Catback is relative quietness of it... i want something louder and deeper like yours... I was considering the Borla Sport catback but its only 2.5in piping.

Would i just go to a muffler shop and have them weld it up for me?

If you are talking about the other w/ the MagnaFlow, I might go on a limb here and offer some Knowledge for you (however I dont condone breaking the law ). He stated He left the First cat on the Vehicle and it has the original DP on the R56. He simply found someone willing to remove the second cat and add 3in Stainless W/ a very nice MAGNA FLOW muffler. This is something ANy SHOP can do, its just a matter of " will they" you know the whole cat thing (emission laws). Its very straight forward, when I had 4x4 trucks we cut the exhausts all day long, NO emission testing!!! header to 3in to muffler. but like I said, emission's Laws suck, keep the ALTA as a bolt on when you need to RE-register or emissions test the car LOL

Ya for SURE!!! My Exhaust which started this thread is a CatBack 3in. it does seem louder under load, but as you can tell from the parked video, the last rev was redline and you still hear the BOV over the exhaust.
In my experience w/ other vehicles (toyota 22r motor) yes the (factory)Cat does increase back pressure, and definetly reduces sound. Even though its a straight through design, theres still baffling.

After hearing His exhaust ( which is great)....Id definetly go to a shop as well!!! You'd spend probably about half of the $730 + shipping and be happier. Hindsight being 20/20..... IMO

in the state of FL you can remove your second cat, we dont do emissions here anymore, unless the car is over 15-20 years old. we had a huge debate over this because i didnt want him to do anything illegal and turns out it wasnt. we plan on doing it though from the second cat back on our auto mini.

we spent about $350 on it you yea you're right, it would have been cheaper to if we would have bought the muffler and taken it to the shop that did it for us ...but oh well, we know now for our second car.

Im not sure what you mean by this statement, but 350 dollars is not bad at all!!! We generally spend $730 for our kits and dont have as nice sound (IMO) so thats a + for you
Also, Just to clear up...I wasnt inferring you guys did anything illegal, it was more for the majority who's States require emission checks thats all.
I think you have the best sounding MINI on NAM!!!

no offense taken, I know exactly what you mean. What she meant was the muffler shop provided the muffler, piping, and also did the install. After seeing the muffler online cheapest I saw was around $120-135 shipped. So buying the muffler myself then having them do piping probably woudl have saved me $50-60. $350 I think was still a good price so I didn't really care.

But on another note. I've hear the Alta with the DP and it sounds sexxay.

ya reading it again it sounds funny to me, I miss worded, "After hearing his exhaust Id def. go to a shop as well," meant I personally should of done this. And the 730 dollars is what WE all spend on the ALTA catBAck.
So my poorily worded point was......I should of saved my money, cut the damn cat off, and welded a 3in pipe w/ a magnaflow on the end of it!!!! Sorry for the miscommunication, I know others will taste blood and pounce so let me clear this up NOW!!!

Since you've already bought the exhaust, time to buck up & get the downpipe, I had the same concern about the Alta kit being too quiet.
I got the chance to hear one with the downpipe at the grand opening today & purchased the whole kit, with the downpipe it's a damn sexy note (and apparently it takes a number of miles to break-in/get louder)..
It sounds so good, I got to purchase it with my wife's full approval

(plus it's good for a ton of power, not just louder)
