Do you have to lower or is it better to lower your MINI after going from 17 to 16 inch? Will it look funny?

No, just go for higher profile tires.

Theoretically there should be no difference as you will compensate for the rim difference via the tire size. So you might have a 205/50 16" or a 205/40 17". Those numbers are for comparison's sake, not actually correct, but close.

Hey Thanks Dave. Will I still be saving weight if I compensate with more tire? And will I still be improving perf?

Hey Dave, I love those rims you have but they wouldn't look that good on my Chili Red/White MCS because they are anthracite a little too dark i think. They dont make a brighter chrome do they?

As for saving weight, hard to say. Depends entirely on the brand of rim/tire you select. In terms of performance, you'll want the thinnest sidewall possible that still gives you a confortable ride and keeps your speedo in a happy place. The smaller the sidewall, the less flex. The less flex, the better responsiveness.

And you're in luck! My rims are Stilauto SR500 that I custom painted metallic gunmetal with shadow. They come looking like this stock and can be bought via
Madness.

ahh I saw the site and it says anthracite i believe and when you look at the sponsor above where i am typing now it looks bright. But then i saw your pic I was bummed because i knew they looked too dark. Thats pretty funny. What size fits with those rims? Thanks

...scratches head...

I'm pretty sure I've got 215/40 17 on there. Will have to check. Car's at the upholstery shop right now.

And to make sure I understand you, understanding me....the rims on my car have been custom painted to be much darker than the way they normally come. They normally come looking like the pictures I posted with the Electric Blue MINI.

IMO, lowered MINIs on 16's do look better. I've got SSR 16 X 7, 205/50/16 S-03 Pole positions and the H-sport 1" lowering springs. To my eyes, it's the perfect combo, not to mention the increased handling around the twisties that the springs give.

I went from the 15" 7 holes to the 16" vspokes and my MINI looks a lot higher then before. It even feels higher when your inside. With the 15" wheels the car had that low bulldog stance but with the 16"s its higher and not as low. I eventually want to lower my MINI, maybe put on some coilovers.
