Where's all the Mini drag racers? more track times?
#2
I've done the 1/4 mile with the Bone stock set-up several times Before i started the modding. The 15.1-15.7 is about right depending on Launch tech. and other factors. The Illousion of speed is after the first gear(yes we all know its tall in the pre 05's) I've run againts many Hondas with simular power including My brothers 98 EX Civic running a 1.6 with Supercharger putting 151 whp without NOS.(210 with). Off the line most would pull about half a car length until they shifted to 2nd gear. From that point on I would play catch up all thru second gear. with third used at my run out and timer gear for the run. (Handycap elimations). If you check out Andy's Unoffical 1/4 database. you will see my car at 15.1 speed of 89 mph which is hitting the Rev Limiter in 3rd.(at the 1000 ft mark). After putting on the pulley it allow me to take it a bit easier off the line, Hit my marks including the Rev limiter in 3rd to do consistant 15.1001 - 15.1756 for 17 back to back runs at the 2nd Battle of the Imports held im my area. With Current mods have done a couple 14.1-2's on an all out run, but slow it back down to 14.8 for competition. For those who are interested my 0-60' are a consistant 2.45-9 for competition and have broken into the sub 2's for all out fun. Im sorry i cant help with the 1/8 mile never kept track of those times.

Surprise!
For those that know me, this is highly unusual, but my next-door neighbor who is a track instructor wanted to go to the local strip and run some times. The drag strip is only 15 minutes away and is also the local kart track that my son runs at as well.
I only took my '02 there once with very poor results having only tried twice (the line was huge) and screwed up both launches. I seem to recall a 15.4, but I'm not sure.
Now, I've actually got a lot of experience launching the car because of Pro Solos (drag race start with a x-mas tree, peel off and run mirrored courses), so I expected to do well if the system works the same.
Anyhow, here's the conditions, and here's my results:
Car: 2005 MINI Cooper S, 1700 miles, Empty tank of gas
Approx. Weight (car weighed previously with 3/4 tank): 2510lbs
Mods: Supertrapp exhaust, 16x7 Rota Slipstreams, 215/45 Falken Azenis
Ambient Temp: 78 degrees, all runs in daylight.
Run #1
Reaction - .8801
60ft - 2.2500
1/8 mile - 9.6977
1/4 mile - 15.0742
Speed - 91.0747 mph
Run #2
Reaction - .7254
60ft - 2.3017
1/8 mile - 9.7381
1/4 mile - 15.1330
Speed - 90.4884 mph
Run #3
Reaction - .6146
60ft - 2.3197
1/8 mile - 9.6632
1/4 mile - 15.0145
Speed - 91.9108 mph
Run #4
Reaction - .5111
60ft - 2.2714
1/8 mile - 9.6429
1/4 mile - 14.9665
Speed - 92.6179 mph
Run #5
Reaction - .4411 (RED)
60ft - 2.2588
1/8 mile - 9.6766
1/4 mile - 15.0023
Speed - 91.9346 mph
So there you have it, that my contribution to the Drag portion of the forum.

The only weight reductions are Rota wheels at 13.5lbs (-11.5lbs/corner from stock 17's) each, loosing the stock exhaust for the Supertrapp (-35lbs), and running almost ZERO gas.
However, the car is completely stripped, not an option in it.
Yeah, after the first run in the low 15's, my goal was to break 15.

fyi...G-tech's are noted for overstating 1/4 trap speed based on the fact they measure actual speed at the end vs. the average of the last xxx feet (like they do at the dragstrip).
For cars in the power range of a Stock Mini Cooper S, you can probably subtract around 3 mph from your G-Tech mph reading to get a reading comparable to what you'd get at your local dragstrip.

And, yes, that G-Tech trap speed would clearly indicated too high with those quarter mile times. I've used the G-Tech a bunch in the past but only watched the 0-60, which I'm sure has a margin of error.

For the G-Tech to be even close to correct.. you must run on a Dead Flat road with no wheel spin on the launch. Also butter smooth shifting. If there is any jerking between shift this will throw it off a bit.
Good to see you do a bit on the Dragstrip BGarfield. Also thanks again for the 4pt harness.. now i have to go searching for a Passanger side one.

Mini drag racers... now that's an endagered species!
Certain cars are better for certain situations.
Just like I wouldn't expect a Hummer H1 to win Le Mans, I wouldn't expect a MINI to blow the doors off many cars at a drag strip--It's a fish out of water!
Yes, one could mod the hell out of their MINI to make it a great drag car, but the MINI's strong suit is it's handling ability.
Going in a straight line is kinda boring to most MINI drivers. Most of us crave the canyons and curves.
That being said, I certainly wish the best of luck to you in your pursuit to make a MINI the quintessential drag car, (you're going to need both luck AND lots of money for lighter wheels, drag slicks, etc.).
Seriously though, good luck, be safe and have fun.

i only got one run in last week cause the new track owners by me changed the line ups and it messed everything up.
17.5 at 79 on a stock MC with an intake, 1/4 tread left on my runflats.
this was my first run in a 5 speed, i'm used to powerbraking an auto like i was in my vette and challenger. m 1.1 RT reflects that lol
60 foot in 2.6
i'm gonna try to get in early next week and try to run a bit more.
i was geting quite a bit of wheel hop, so i'm going to try and ease it off the line a bit more this time.
i launched at about 2 grand and i couldnt get the front end to stop hopping. (i'm experienced with RWD cars, but this if my first run in FWD, so cut me some slack lol )

fish out of water eh?? .. Well depends if your doing heads up or elimantion.. When the Battle of the imports came to VMP for 2002 and 2003. I entered both times.. I won the first year beating out a 60 car field. The car was bone stock even had the Sunroof. Second year. New Mini simular Spec at Brians and made it to the Semi's only to loose by a .002 sec. Then they cancled it for 2004. and i havent been back since. The car is faster now and i should beable to brake into the 13"s mark or damn close to it. G-tech has me in the range of 13.3-14.1 depending on the launch.. so im expecting 13.8-14.5 at the strip. IF i ever go back

Oh come on now. The MINI isn't that bad of a dragster. All it needs is a little, well ok maybe double stock, more power.
I have had great results with my setup. At the 1/8th. I have not yet visited a 1/4 mile track. I am waiting for the summer to give way to fall, and let things cool down.
Lately my best 60ft time was a 2.2. Thats pretty decent for a FWD.
However if you launch these things right, and have just enough wheel slip to keep it from bogging, a good bit of wheel hop can occur. I have snapped a CV joint from this.
A question for all you guys with Gtech's. What's your best 0-60 time? My best yet is a 4.9. Now tell me that that's not moving for a FWDer.
