OctaneGuy's Plastic Trim Sauce--almost there!
Since several of the complaints still occurred with the same foam applicator I supplied, then we can probably narrow this down to climate and rubbings.
I don't rub, so that may be a factor as well. I'll be posting a video clip soon on how I apply it.

(atleast thats what I think BW smells like)
The hard rubbing was needed to really spread the product out. Areas where I did not do so (and didn't get any static) looked oily afterwards (and within a few days, dusty). The rubbing also helped remove the set in wax stains. I don't mind the static at all though..and I don't plan to be applying black wow at a gas station any time soon!

And was there a kite and a key involved in the next phase of the experiment?
Actually I take back that "I don't rub"--I do rub but it's more like smoothing out rather than hard rubbing. LOL.
re: Gas Station
haha good point. LOL.

It's not the environment. It's the rubbing. The harder and more I rubbed, the more static. That of course makes sense too...didn't you do that in middle school physics?

I finally stopped procrastinating and applied Epic with my PC yesterday. Bamatt will be proud.
Thanks, Heather, for your advice. The Epic did a great job and was so easy to hand-buff off. Looks more luscious this morning after sitting overnight.
Richard, the BW has evened out and looks even better after washing. Also, I was so glad that I'd put BW on the trim earlier. Even though I taped off the edge of the trim before waxing, I still got a little Epic on the trim w/o tape. It wiped off w/o staining thanks to the BW.
Miss Flo is really swanky today.

The main reason I suggest using foam is simply that you don't want to use something absorbent that will hold too much product. First of all you don't need to use very much and second having an applicator that absorbs too much product will just waste it IMO.
Your finger works fine too! The foam that I use are the applicators you find for applying wax. The little round disc from Meguiar's for example.

Oooh thanks!
Heh heh no problem.
Great to hear! Glad it's working out well for you.
Check out these pix. It's from a club run yesterday--saw one of my members cars had the OEM rack and I "thought" it was supposed to be black, so I asked Anthony about it.

He said the MINI lives outdoors..... so I asked if I could try some Black Wow to see if the black would come back, and here ya go!

I think we were all astonished by the results!
Also over the weekend I visited Scott at Central Coast Coopers to have my Detroit Tuned Bypass Valve installed and saw a customers Jet Black MCS there. It was owned by a father/son duo. I told the father I had something that would really make his car look great with minimal effort. So I asked the father what color the trim was on his sons MINI, he said "black". I replied "Really?? Do you mind if I try a little test?"
The trim before (I forgot to take a "before" pic, but the other side was in the same condition)

After

I actually left exposed only a section of the untreated trim--the lower part of the trim towards the skirt and towards the front bumper were treated with Black Wow. Both the fathers and son response was WOW! That looks great! The father remarked that he never realized the trim wasn't black anymore.

Real world results:
Applied BW a few weeks ago, and since it has been washed 4-5 times and endured a 6+ hour rain-soaked ride on 95 through the heart of Tropical Storm Barry... got home this past weekend & washed the MINI to observe BW still shining bright. An excellent product!

OK after all my whining about "where is my BW"...
I just used it for the 1st time today
I'm impressed with it. I didn't have any trouble applying it, no unevenness. I used a Meguiar's round pad. I went over all the trim with a paper towel afterwards to remove any overapplication & try to avoid it attracting dirt as people had mentioned.
When going back with the paper towel I felt the hairs on my arm being pulled towards the trim
really hard
so I would echo the sentiments that BW does somehow cause static electricity which in turn does cause dirt & dust to be attracted to the trim. I had to run an errand & when I returned there were bits of fine dirt/dust on my trim. The static forcefield was broken by the time I got home though (I did the arm hair test & got no pulling
) There isn't much stuff on the trim but I am going to wipe it down in the AM & see if any more appears. I would think that if the trim is putting off static electricity the laws of physics would dictate that particles will be attracted to the trim. MBE the key is to not drive anywhere until the static dissipates. I think all the static was gone in under an hour but I dunno for sure as I didn't look at my watch

Thanks for your feedback!
I experienced the "static" for the first time on a Chevy Silverado bumper. Solving the problem was as simple as spraying a little quick detailer on the trim as you wiped. Since BW isn't affected by water, it's a quick fix if the static is bothering you. Just spritz it onto the bumper as you apply the BW. As has been mentioned previously, the static will happen regardless of product, it's not a BW issue.
On this same truck, I noticed that each grill was black plastic. Check this out

Just treating two pieces (slat 4 and 5 from the top) it's easy to tell the dramatic improvement..it really brings out the chrome.

And all finished

That said neither lasted long enough for me to be satisfied with them. If BW lasts long enough (1 day so far so good
) I am willing to try to deal with the static & particle attraction. OG, are you saying I can say semi rub BW in & immediately spray QD & continue my rub-in to kinda make it all one step?
To dispell the static all I've had to do is instead of wiping off the excess with a dry paper towel, just use a wet paper towel - works perfectly! And ALL static is gone after the first wash, but the black just goes on, and on, and on.....
Yeah, the static/dust issue goes away after the first wash...but like 4 washes later the BW keeps on going.
Worth the static on application, IMO. I liked my Wizard's but this stuff lasts longer.
