Cleaning Deep Dirt in Beige Interior Plastics
 

My 2005 R50 has an irritating issue. It has the Cordoba Beige interior and there is a lot of dark dirt seemingly embedded into the plastics and door panels in the valleys of the texture. The only thing that has worked so far is Dawn dish soap used with a Magic Eraser and then flushing with water (with the panel removed from the car for cleaning). The problem is that just the driver's door panel used about 4 Magic Erasers to get 90% clean, and those things aren't cheap! I have also tried Simple Green and even Purple Power and this dirt just laughs at my pain. Is there any other way, or am I doomed to use up my local WalMart's entire stock of Magic Erasers just to clean my interior?

This is by far the best product I've ever used at getting dirt and grim out of little crevices. It is nothing short of amazing. Spray it on, and agitate with a scrub brush you got from a normal grocery store. It should do exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks! I'll have to order some. It says it's for surface prep for refinishing though. Does it do any damage to the appearance? I don't want to dye the parts, just clean them.

Nope - it is mostly designed to remove any contaminants before a ceramic type coating is applied. So it removes dirt and grime, along with any solvents or residues from old cleaning products. Be sure to get a good brush to agitate the during cleaning. One of those you typically use when washing dishes is the best, like this one:



Another product that I've used off label with fantastic results is Gyeon's leather cleaner. I use it to keep my steering wheel clean and have also tried it out on some of the hard to clean plastic bits with great success. Link below:

The Dawn soap is on the right track. A few drops mixed with Isopropyl Alcohol and water will make a more efficient cleaner. I made up a batch for cleaning Granite instead of the $20 bottle of cleaner they sell. Probably what the pink Gyeon is made of. Worth a shot for a lot less cash.

warm water and vinegar and a soft brush ... and old toothbrush will work

Have you tried steam? It will be less abrasive than a brush and it breaks down grime and grease without the harsh cleaners. I have the satellite grey door panels on my mini. I use griots interior cleaner and then a boars hair brush to agitate and create foam that brings up the dirt. I clean it at least once a year this way. But try the steam for the tough stuff.
