Belive it or not...WD40 it will not harm the finish of your paint or plastic trim. It works to remove tar, bugs, tree sap, ect. Check out WD40.com 2000 uses for WD40...it works and it's cheap. And I'll bet already in most everyone's garage.

Didn't read the whole thread. Did anyone mention pencil eraser? Plain pink eraser does it for me. Then Meguiar's Hyperdressing on the black trim.

I use Back to Black. Wipe on. Let dry about 5 minutes. Buff with clean cloth. Dirt won't attract as easy...

Tried rubbing alcohol with marginal results. Then decided to use peanut butter and damn it works! Cosmoline is gone as well as the wax residue.

Wait until it gets dusty out and see if your "damn it works" reaction is still there!

My new to me 2012 had some wax residue on the textured black bits. This weekend I tried a nice new soft toothbrush with rubbing alcohol. It worked extremely well on the areas that I suspect were newer wax spots. A few areas it didn't get rid of the haze. So I tried peanut oil on those areas and it worked really well.

I use Meguiars Black Wax in a spray bottle on my Midnight Black Metallic Mayfair S paint and "Back to Black" plastic treatment made specifically for all color plastic trim pieces. Back to Black needs to be applied with a rag, left for 5 minutes and wiped smooth. 3 coats on 3 year old plastic returned my car's black plastic trim to "new". Took me about an hour tops to do the whole car. I treated it again with one coat 6 months later...

So I'm new to the boards and wanted to ask if anyone else has seen this stuff coming out of drain holes throughout their MINI? I've seen it under the hood in crevices, and in places around doors. The areas under the hood seem to warm up after a drive, and can be wiped with a damp rag. At first I thought it was bugs that were trapped or hiding, and we're getting cooked in the engine bay. It's a mix between tree sap and a wax substance. The front fender trims started to show signs of a drip from under the hood crevice.
