Help please...Chipped bonnet and I don't know what to do.
 

Hi guys...Just wondering what I could do to fix up a rock chip on my bonnet??? Just gave my car two coats of NXT yesterday and low and behold, I guess on my way to work some rock chipped the front of my bonnet near the mini emblem. The size of the chip is about a quarter of an inch. Had a friend look at it and he said I'd be able to buff it out. :sad: If I do this what is the procedure and what will I need??? I'm a noob and I've never really used the buffing technique.
Or is there anything else I can do to get rid of it? I heard of people using the autosharp pen, but I'm still unsure about it. Please someone help me.....:sad:

I was polishing Poco after a wash today and there was a small chip on the bonnet. I have had pretty good results with the paint and clear coat,touch up from my MINI dealer.

.Now that was on the doors,I think horizontal is going to be harder to do with the brush.May go over to my buddy,s with the small air brush for his models and try that.some where under the bonnet first:razz:
Go easy ,take your time,practice somewhere under the bonnet,have fun taking car of your MINI:wink:

Thanks for th input Lot...I'm going crazy over this chip!!! My BRG/White Cooper only has like 600 miles on it and I'm plagued with this blemish! Its like one of those days where you realize you have a zit on your nose and you don't really know what to do to get rid of it. You're afraid to touch it because you might make it worse. I'm thinking about that autosharp pen or the paint kit from the dealer, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Anyway, if I do decide to attempt to fix it, what should I do considering that I have two coats of the NXT wax??? Should I try washing off the wax in that small area first?
Any other input from any of you guys????

When I have done touch-up ,I take a terry cloth and wash off the wax in a small area around the chip,feather out from the chip,size of a bottle cap,then many LIGHT coats of paint ,I can't see coluor in the chip till 3 or 4 coats,then same for clear coat.There is no fast way.

Man-o-man...have I done it!!!! Picked up the touch up paint from the dealership and tried covering it up, and I did a horrible job!!!!!!!!! #%@^%^! Wish I had a camera to take a pic of it to show you guys, but I don't. Would it be possible to buff out the crappy job that I did??? Or am I basically screwed? :cry:

If you just did this take a tooth pick and gentle scatch out the paint,it takes
a while to get hard,go easy .I have had luck with polish,detail spray,but get out there now

When is the Langka stuff supposed to be used??? Right after applying the touch up paint or can it be used anytime after it has completely dried?

The Lanka site said up to 3-4 days,longer would be worse,I think,
the stuff sounds like a more aggresive polish ,watch your paint around the area.

My advice, pre fix, would have been to get used to it and train your eye to look away from the chip for another year or so. By that time, your bonnet will be so completely pitted and chipped that you'll have no problem justifying a bonnet re-paint. And if you heed my advice now, you'll be able to save up the fix money so you won't have to stress about the cost.

Or the better alternative is to either get a clear or vinyl bra and try to stop/minimize the rock chip problem on its tracks. Re-spraying a 2 year old car just because of rock chips in the bonnet will only affect your resale value. It is cheaper to spend the dough on either bra solution than to repaint the car and have its value suffer.

Caveat: My advice only applies if you've driven cars which never obtained such visible pitting and therefore felt that such a clear bra was the height of frivolity.

Langka may be able to get rid of your botched touch-up. I suggest for next time, use the tip of the tooth pick and just dap the touch-up paint slowly by layering the paint after one layer has dried. After that, take it to a touch-up place or a paintless dent removal place. They can usually do a color-sand on it to blend the touch up paint with the exisitng paint. You won't notice the difference.

Speaking of dents, in the future, most dents can be removed or at least appear to be removed with most paintless dent removal process.
