Noobie: Applying BW - 2 questions

Hi,

Newbie here (I picked up my LB Clubman this past Tuesday)....got a couple of questions. Hope you guys can help.

First quesiton, I noticed there are a lot of thin black trim on the Clubman, see the orange arrow. Do you guys have any suggestions or techniques to apply Black Wow on there without getting it on the body or the windows? I can always use a pad applicator to do it, but since the area is so small, I was wondering if there are any secrets that'll make it easier. I looked at OctaneGuy's "Fresh Start" bundle #1 and didn't see any special equipment. Maybe a small brush or something??

Second question, the black rubber part (red arrow), can I use Black Wow on there as well? It's more rubber like than plastic since it is the seal for the roof. I know BW can be used on black trims...but just wasn't sure if the black trim is rubber material is OK or not.

Thanks.

I use a Round Yellow Foam Pad on all of the Black Trim, you don't have to worry about getting BW on the paint or Glass it easily wipes off!!

Btw Welcome to the World of OCD!!

The side rails come very easy if your worried about get BW on your paint. Is the sun roof seal rubber or plastic? I thought BW was for plastic only.

Congrats on your new MINI.

re: Black Wow application
Did you get the Trim Card? For the rain gutters, just drop the card in the gutter and you can easily apply the BW to the gutters. For the portion closest to the roof, you can use a small applicator or a foam brush. I've got those in my store as well.

As others have said, BW is easy to wipe off the paint if you get some on there.

For the sunroof surrounds, you can also use BW. Since you're in SoCal, rain isn't so much of an issue in other parts of the country. What can happen is that because rubber is more porous than plastic, the BW goes in, and under heavy rainstorm, can wash out. This area often turns white when the roof is waxed, and PW works great for removing that and dressing it a bit. But I would use BW or Prima Nero on these areas and use the foam brush above.

I got the card, yes. Thanks. For some reason, I didn't remember about the masking card. I ordered BW from you waayyyy before I got my car. So the bottle was just sitting there. I'd figure I'm a guy, I have the god given right to do things without reading the manual first.

For the rubber trim around the roof, I guess I'm more worried about the rubber drying out over time. I figure if BW can help protect it, then I want to use it.

Weel, I'll try it this coming weekend and see how I do. I guess I need to be patient instead of rushing through it.

Thanks.

Based on the tests done so far, unfortunately, it's a very very long time. So much so ..that you won't need to worry about it going bad, lol.

If I were operating as a typical manufacturer or a smarter marketing guy, I would say, no longer than 5 years, and it's Freshness Date or best used within 1 year...so that way you can go out and buy some more and keep me in business, and solve my problem of BW being a lifetime supply!

I use 303 Protectant (UV protection) on the rubber around the sun roof. I found a bottle of generic stuff with a foam applicator (like some shoe shine has). Emptied it out. Refilled it with the 303 and can apply a coat in about 30 seconds. The rest of the car gets BW.

I just realized the rear pano roof exterior seal is not rubber. But it looks more like a velvet type material. What do you guys use on this??

Open Sunroof first, then use a Lint Brush held at an angle to get into the groove, a Soft Toothbrush, a 100% Cotton Wax Remover Cloth lightly dampened with Water to help grab the Lint...other's may have more ideas.

I wrote this way back in 2003 but it still applies today.

A damp chamois or synthetic one works great to lift up and remove the lint.

Starts off as this
