Detailers Paradise you need to do this... For all us NAMers....

I have had my Mini for going on 6 months now and I have had those "good" washes but I am waiting for that one perfect day where a 8hr FULL detail marathon can take place, but I have asked MANY MANY questions about the approach I should take and analyzed just about every detailing thread here on NAM and I noticed a pattern...

If I remember correctly, you have posted in EVERY thread in some way shape or form, and always have had a big, full detail post. I haven't had 1 person say bad things about you, nor had bad experience with your products. I personally have bought from you and like I said I am waiting for the right moment to use it, anyways back to the point. I think you should put out a Complete Detailer's guide for the MINI. Have topics like:
  • Best approach
  • Where you should start
  • Proper Techniques
  • How to use your products
  • Getting ready for the clean
  • Different Options
  • The science of the products (like why/how wax works, etc)
  • Ridding of swirls
  • Best ways to achieve different shines
  • Drying
  • Washing
  • Waxing
  • Polishing
  • Windows
  • Interior
I know I am OCD about my car and not to long ago I posted my Mini OCD post and from the looks of it I now know I am not alone. I would come out with this book, but simply I don't know that much about detailing like you folks there do. Sure there are car detailing books, but alot of those are generic books, and not really in detail about how stuff works.

I don't know I just thought it would be a good idea. If you decide to do it, Could I get copy 1 signed by you all there?

Kinda put all the subjects from most talked about here on NAM.... I am sure after seeing the detailed posts you have made, I am sure this book would be as good as your polishes and washes..

FYI... Put me down for book Order # 1

NAMers... lets give them enough interest to have them really consider it and leave them no choice but to have to add another product code to their database..

Like I said I am still learning here so back off....
I will take longer as the days become longer and the weather isn't soo cold.. I haven't been able to spend a FULL day cause the winter sux...

The more I learn the longer it takes...

See Ill clean the car so its not dirty and keep the amount of dirt down so I don't have to spend as much time getting the crap off to then wash it

Well were in the midst of moving so I had to fight for my track car to hit the garage or I would have had to sell it.. (Which isnt gonna happen), and its not licensed and after a notification from the boys in blue telling me to license it or hide it, I had to move the e30 in the garage. forcing me to I am ashamed to say it but move it to the drive, (which is why I try to wash / quick detail it no less than 2 times a week) Once I get to the new house I am gonna have to fight for me to get both spots in the garage ... I do feel bad about it being outside, but a buddy and I are going in on shop space so I can put the track car in the shop bay and the Mini safe and sound..

You have my vote for a book/dvd. Do it better than Groit's and sell it with the appropriate package of goodies AT THE RIGHT PRICE

sil3ncer7,

I know it's not exactly what you are looking for but a good start is Octane Guy's DVD. It's more about paint polishing than detailing per se but, to me, this is the most difficult part. Maybe OG and DP can make one together...

Hmmmmm. An OCD Guide to spending your entire weekend rubbing your loved one (your MINI of course). Sounds like fun!

I'd certainly be up for purchasing a detailed detailing guide... I hate to say it, but what is a garage? I've been in the woods too long to remember. (Well, at least there are storage buildings for rent out here for the winter down time.)

FWIW, I've been working on this very thing for quite awhile now. Although, and thanks Darren for the plug!!!--I do already have a very successful 2.5hr DVD out on paint polishing covering over 50 tips from hand waxing, to taping, to polishing with the PC and waxing featuring the Meguiar's products--I've been reworking a DVD that's specifically on using Prima. A number of NAMers have participated in various video shoots with me to date, though no release date has been set.

Btw, I hope you've also read the NAM Alliance Ezine, as both Heather and I are writing detailing articles answering many of these questions and so much more.

Great Idea! My wife's 07 MCS has alot of the black specs on it and clay doesn't seem to take it off. I've also been thinking of buying a PC but with the little knowlege I have I don't want to screw it up. I've been using DP products exclusively and been washing and HYDRO-ing with good results. But I think it could be alot better with more KNOWLEGE!

As OctaneGuy mentioned, he is working on a revised DVD using Prima products and the Lake Country pad system.

As for a written guide, this is something we would love to do. As soon as several of you come by and volunteer at DP for a few weeks (or months, while you're at it ) so we'll have time to do one then it will be written!

Of course, I'm only kidding about volunteers but it's honestly one of those projects that we really would love to do but just don't have the time currently. We already work nearly non-stop and still can't get everything done! However, we DO make note of such suggestions and take them very seriously- even when it's something already on "our list" we still like to know where it ranks in what customers desire most/least.

So, thanks very much for the idea and input from everyone! One day we'll have a guide for you...

-Heather

PS- We do have a few topics covered in articles on our website, under Advice & Tips:

Polishing Tips and Techniques
Tell Me About Clay
