Clear plastic -- PLastX or Clear Plastic Cleaner/Polish

Meguiar's has two different products for clear plastic cleaning - PlastX (consumer line) and TWO products, Clear Plastic Cleaner and Clear Plastic Polish (pro line).

- Which is best for use on clear gauge faces? I'm assuming the Pro line stuff, but I'm not able to tell when to use the Cleaner vs. the Polish

- Which can also be used for other plastic like eyeglass lenses, cell phone/MP3 player faces? I assume the same product as would be used for the gauge faces, but I'm not sure of there's a hardness difference...

- Neither product should ever be needed for our headlamps/turn signals/fogs, correct? As I recall, all of our lamps are glass w/o a plastic protector layer.

- OK to use this product on Lamin-X tinted tail film or headlight film?

- Last, has anyone see either product for sale at a brick and morter store? Neither NAPA nor Advance have either in Ohio. I can order it online, but I hate paying full retail PLUS $10 or $12 for shipping for something like this.

Thanks!

I highly recommend Plexus. It is a cleaner and light polish, and I think a little bit of filler wax as well. All I know is when I use it on the guages, it looks like there's no plastic over them anymore! Works great on any smooth plastic like exterior lights as well.

That product talks about "lifting stains" but what about when you know you already have scratches? My gauge faces have visible spiderwebbing (I guess even microfiber will scratch clear plastic) and some devices like my Chocolate cell phone and MP3 player have scratches that I'd like to polish out rather than masque.

We use only Omnicleenz for our clear plastic. This is safe enough to be used on iPod surfaces as well:

Also sounds good for a CLEANER but makes no mention of any ability to polish out existing fine/medium scratches.

I guess I should have been clearer -- I'm looking for something that I can use to restore my already lightly-scratched gauge faces to "invisibly clear" as well as use on more heavily-scratched units like my Chocolate phone, eyeglasses/sunglasses and other clear plastic items.

I use Novus polish for clear plastic. It's a commercial product, but you can get it at some hobby/model shops.

Then you'll want the Ice Creme kit instead:

I have Ice Creme! It works miracles on iPods and cell phones.

I never thought to use it on my speedo/gauge plastic though.

Brilliant!

I've been meaning to try polishing my laptop for awhile, so this post inspired me. I used Meguiar's PlastiX and my Metabo SXE400 3" RO polisher with a Griots Orange Polishing Pad.

Not 100% perfect, but substantially improved. I did two complete passes here.

Then I saw my Dymo Twin Turbo labeler, and had to try that too!!!

Sorry for the bad lighting--we had a power failure all day in the shop. I had to string power from an adjacent building and so I was working with limited electricity here!

Richard, shouldn't you be sending me my black goo instead of polishing very odd things around your shop ... hmmm? (taps foot impatiently)

Actually that's my office! LOL, and your order was shipped on the 15th, so it should arrive any day.
