DCMM 2-way radio channel for the Dragon?

There's going to be a directory of various channels for various groups this year. I think this is a great idea...makes communicating so much easier.

I'm thinking Channel 9 sub 11...creepy kinda, but I bet no-one would forget it.
Thoughts?

I'm not going to the Dragon, but I'm definitely planning on doing some of the runs coming up, and I understand that 2-ways are a must.

That said, are there certain things we need to look for in 2-way radios? Any recommendations?

Not a must, but highly recommended. If you don't have one, you'll not only miss out on all of the witty banter (), but we also pass safety and hazard info too.

As for what to look for, I'd get a brand name (i.e. Motorola, Cobra, Midland, and I'm sure I'm missing one or two good names) and a range of at least 10 miles. Not that you'll get even close to 10 miles mind you, but they'll usually give you about a mile in real world conditions in my experience.

Please pardon an outsider's intrusion, but just having gone thru the purchasing of said radios, thought I'd chime in. Since your club uses sub-channels, make sure the radios you look at have these; some don't. Also rechargable batteries and a charging stand come in very handy, unless you enjoy buying many, many AAA batteries!
I just bought a pair of Audiovox GMRS, with subs and recharger for $24.98 at Walmart. More expensive ones are available, but why pay more than you need to?
Wish I was going to the Dragon.

Regardless if we choose to have a DCMM-only one for social environments such as Fontana, I strongly encourage that we still use 7/21 when we're out driving. It's important for us to maintain the highest amount of situational awareness when driving, and excluding input from other non-DCMM MINI drivers around us seems silly... especially when the range is so short around those mountains!

The need for a special channel this year is much lower anyway, since we aren't organizing anything!

Last year we did use 5/21 for registration speak and stuff. I kept one on 5/21 and one on 7/21. but the nightly chatter on 7/21 is interesting to say the least. Soap opera anyone?

take all of them to the Dragon, and rent them out...

I just saw the "channel directory" on the Dragon thread, sounded like a good idea...but I guess that's really for the organizers.
I guess I'm so used to working at the Dragon, I jumped on it... Pavlovian behavior...

as it turns out, these channels aren't just for the organizers...other clubs and groups are doing this too. I really think this would be helpful for keeping in touch. I know I'd want a DCMM channel just to help me keep track of y'all.
5-21 is taken...any other ideas?

How about 2-8? As in Route 28, the road that Fontana is on...

EDIT: Nevermind, Channel 2 is taken now... Only channels left are 10, 12 through 19 and 22. Any other ideas?

How many people have radios that have both frequencies? And then there is the other question, how many people will be on the "club" channel to contact other members? I will probably keep my radio on 7/21 most if not all the time.

Well, Kattiya and I have two radios, one for her, one for me. When we're together, we'll have one on the DCMM channel and the other on the main MOTD channel. However, if she wanders off, we'll probably switch back to the DCMM channel.

I don't really think we need to buy another set so that we can both be on both channels all the time.

20 - 20? And we all talk like Bawbwa Wawa
I would use a "club" channel, but that's just me, I guess...

22/22 works for me... (20/20 is taken already) but only people with GRMS-capable radios will be able to use it! (not that we have many choices left now)
