DCMM Sunday Drive & Brunch - Sunday, April 24 10:00 am

Please join us on Sunday, April 24 for a fun country drive, brunch , and another country drive back home.

Meet on Sunday, April 24 at Wegman's in Sterling VA at 9:30 am.

Wegman's is located here:
http://www.wegmans.com/about/storeLo...sp?store_nbr=7
just down the street from MINI of Sterling.

Wegman's has restrooms and, of course, a place to buy of cup of coffee before the drive.

Our drive will start at 10:00 am (route planned by our very own Mty MINI!!!) and take a twistie pace through the Virginia countryside, ending at the Orlean Market Restaurant in Upperville, VA where we have an 12:30 pm reservation. (Phone number for the restaurant is 540-364-6350.)

The restaurant is very excited to have us! We will be seated at separate tables, but all in the same room, and they have agreed to do individual checks for us. You can order whatever you like off their menu. They feature good, simple food at good prices. The most expensive item for brunch is $9.95!

After brunch, Mty MINI has devised another route to take us back to
our start point on a reputed twistie road which will connect back up to Route 7. Folks can break off if needed prior to arriving back at Wegman's.

For those who cannot join on the drive, you are welcome to meet us at
the restaurant for brunch.

If you are coming please RSVP by Monday,April 11.
RSVP to events@dcmetrominis.org with name, number of people, number of
cars. Please also indicate if you are coming on the drive or just meeting us there to eat. Please also indicate if you are a DCMM member or not. Want to join? - click on the link at www.dcmetrominis.org.

This is a month and a half into the future. Is that summer? Anyone up for something sooner? Vince

I really wanted to plan this event for March, but the only date that works is Easter Sunday, which was sort of a problem!

We have our Tech Day on April 2nd
the Annual Meeting on April 17 with a scavenger hunt
and this drive April 24

Events are in the works for May and June as well.

I hope to finalize a date for us to get together at Tortilla Factory very soon!

In terms of driving, if anyone just wants to get together some weekend day and have a drive - let me know and I would be happy to 1) come along if I can and 2) help plan it.

ChiliBit 03-11-2005 03:20 PM

Thanks Jen. Consider this a friendly permutation of your thread.

The pent up urge to motor is going to surface very soon.

I still have a que sheet that started at the Border's in Manassas, crossed over the Blue Ridge on 29/211 past Sperryville and then wiggled back into Front Royal. It was the one with the firetower excusion. I have run it since with Bea [sans tower] and would do it again. I guess it would be an impromptu.

Now when? I am booked on Easter weekend. Free this weekend an next. But I am not crucial to anything. So any date is fair game.

If there is any interest, we can start a thread.

Vince

Wish i could come Jen but for me to do so. I would need some one to Drive for me:razz: Have Williamsburg car show saturday 9-4pm then work 6:40pm - 5:40 am. Would need to leave straight form work to make it up there in time. Who know could be a slow night on the 23rd and you may find me sleeping in the parking lot. If you do just wake me in a Normal fashion.. and not by opening the door and blasting an air horn in my ear. Yes Paddy i know you that well :eek2:

It would be great to see you again if you can make it. If not, I am sure you will end up this way for one of our events this Spring/Summer.

Naked Mountain Vineyard Recon Report

The Naked Mountain Vineyard is open every dat from 11 am to 5 pm and
offers wine tasting at $3.00 per person or wine by the glass at $5.00.
They also offer light foods, brie, cheeses, crackers, sausage, etc. for
$3.00 to $8.50 and soft drinks and bottled water for $.75 to $1.25. The
store sells wine, of course, for about $16-$18 per bottle, tee shirts
(Drink Naked!), glasses, re-corkers, etc.

They have outdoor covered picnic tables, a deck that accomodates about 50 people, indoor tables for about 40 people and a 25 foot bar.

The winery has a spectacular view of the mountains that I enjoyed first
hand today while tasting some excellent wines.

The owner is a car enthusiast, Porsches, I think.

I think it took us about 30 minutes to get there from the Orleans Market
and Resturant, but we we really enjoying the view and not moving very fast.

See http://www.nakedmtn.com/about.html for further information.

End of recon report.

Jen 04-11-2005 06:21 AM

The route has been tested and so far 14 cars have signed up. You don't want to miss this run. A few more details to tempt you:

* The restaurant has been tested for brunch and the testers report back on excellent food! We'll get a copy of the menu posted soon.
* The run is just a little over 125 miles of good roads for MINIs.
* We'll take a break in Middleburg at the 35 mile mark, brunch at 64 miles and wine/cheese at 90 miles.
* For $3.00 per person we'll get a tour of the working end of the winery and some wines to taste. Virginia wines are really coming up in the world right now. Never tasted one? Come on out!
* I think we'll do a cling for this one, because I need a new cling on the car!

The winery and restaurant both need head counts by this weekend, so please let me know at events@dcmetrominis.org if you are coming.

First MINI outing question

Can this be a family event (e.g, bring the kids)?

I know it would be more fun as adults, but I can't remember that far back.

And I can heartily recommend the wine at the winery, as I'm currently, *ahem*, sampling the last of the bottle I bought Sunday!

MINIs are *not* for kids!!!

Kidding!!! Of course kids are invited!! They should have a great time twisting through the VA countryside!

Edge 04-12-2005 01:45 AM

There's an excellent chance (90%) that I'll be able to make it to this one... if so, you guys can spend the extra social time over wine convicing me to actually come to the Dragon. The alcohol will help too.

How's the weather over there? I'm kind of hoping that I'll be returning to the States with the cold weather long gone...

We are definitely family friendly. No problem bringing kids.
