This is kind of funny....

This advice, which you present like you know what your talking about ( I assume you're in the IT business or similar?), is the exact opposite of what most of the people who I look to for expert opinions in the "internetworking fields" offer as advice on this specific topic.

I have become convinced, and recommend to my clients, that the auto-reply function of most email clients be turned off and not used at all unless you like to give the spammers and marketers a notice that your email address is valid and ready to be added to lists of email addresses to be sold to others and spammed!

Then there are those people who don't see to care what you do. I use my out of office religiously when I am not here. Even for my regular days off (which lately is .5 per week) And I update the voice mail too. And I still, EVERY WEEK, get one of two emails/calls from people asking me why I did not get back to them by XYZ date - when all methods I have of telling them I am gone say I am gone on that date.
