Mark's annual cookout. Your opinions, 5th of July or August 9th?

OK all. A couple months ago I had asked Chris to stick me in the DCMM calendar for my annual DCMM cookout on July 26. Now the Guiness MINI record line up / thing is moving to that date... So I need to move. June is too close to the DCMM picnic. So... Between my schedule of summertime fun and DCMM's rapidly filling schedule here's the two ideas that will work for both.

Option One. Saturday July 5th.

Pros: Holiday weekend. DCMM parade events are Friday. Good 'party' weekend, easy theme, can do my usual VA legal fireworks in my backyard.

Cons: Do many people go away for the weekend? Many other parties on the Sat after the 5th?

Option Two. Move it all the way out to August 9th.

Thoughts on the 5th? What say you?

What Guiness thing?

July 5th is probably a non-starter - lots of people leave town that weekend.

edit: Oh, the record attempt. *shrug*

The record attempt for the biggest traffic jam composed entirely of MINIs. Down in Williamsburg. I think only a handful from here went last year but its been suggested I should move my cookout to eliminate the conflict.

Info is on the DCMM calendar on the date July26th...

I'd go with the August date, Mark.

Not only do people travel on the July Fourth weekend, there's lots of other stuff going on over the long weekend.

My eight cents (seen the price of gas lately?).

Yeah, it's time for the infamous Mark's cookout again.

Can't wait.... can't wait....., August will work for me though.

I'm not planning on going anywhere for the July 4th holiday, so July 5th works for me. We will have just gotten back from MINI Takes the States (also July 26th) and will likely not travel again until later in the month, so August 9th works too.

I guess I could've just said "both days work for me"?

We have a wedding to go to on the 5th, so August works for us as well! (just as long as it is before we go to Vegas for our belated honeymoon!) and it will give us all something fun to do in August!

I won't be around for the August date, but go with whatever folks want to do...I'll be at the beach:grin:...but with my family:roll:

I would vote August

August for me, gonna be outta town that weekend.

Probably should buy tickets right away, now that I think about it.

i'd say August. This will be my first:)

T&CMCSa Apr 22, 2008 04:09 PM

August works better for us.

It sounds like you're getting a lot of Augusts... But, to agree with some others, I think that July 5th will have a lot of people that are gonna be out of town and/or have other plans (since there will be so much stuff to do then, i'm sure.) just another thought.:)

Looks like a landslide for August, except for Katie one of the small handful of my favorite DCMM'ers!

kgdblu Apr 23, 2008 05:20 AM

Majority rules, Mark. You'll have your fill of me next week at the info table:lol:

mmatarella Apr 23, 2008 05:24 AM

Either is good for us, but I like August better. Plus if it's hot you have a very nice big house for us to lounge around in and eat.

mmatarella Apr 24, 2008 11:58 AM

OK, I'll ask Chris to put it in at August 9th. Be there or be square! :)
