Arrgh, Otto's boot has been violated!

Been spending the last few days off scouting out roads for another run (sorry Virginians). While I was waiting to make a left turn, the driver behind me hit Otto in the back.:eek2:

The lady was very apologetic as well as quite shaken and nervous. She said this was the first accident she had ever had. She also said that she was worried because she was pregnant and the seatbelt pressed into her stomach tight. Couldn't really get angry at her after she told me that.

She called the sheriff and after he wrote down our info, he asked how I liked the MINI. He said that he thought they were cool. He also said his friend was a mechanic at Sterling.

As far as damage goes, Otto's rear bumper cover is kind of deformed. Plus, there is a Mazda logo imprinted in it:eek: .Although it looks as though it could be pulled back out into shape. The left rear fog light is not working and a warning light came on informing me of that.

Of course this happened after I spent the whole morning giving Otto a bath.

The Mazda's grill was trashed. The hood is crumpled and the lights were pushed in.

Aw man, that sucks... although it could have been worse, I guess... here's hoping that Otto gets "healed" soon.

R56 Ed Apr 18, 2008 05:39 PM

Bill, that sucks!
Glad you are okay and that Otto is only slightly hurt. But to lose his virginity to a MAZDA  And worse, to get a Mazda hickey on it, too :eek2:

Sure hope the repairs are minor and covered by her insurance. But at least Otto covered YOUR butt!

Another example of how our MINIs take care of US!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Bummer...sorry about Otto. Hope all goes well at the body shop and it's good as new very soon. Glad you were not hurt...:)

Ugh... sorry to hear about your accident Jeffbill ! (gotta keep that sense of humor, even at times like this) Glad it sounds like your damage isn't too severe. Very similar thing happened to me little over a year ago. I was amazed at how well the MINI rear bumper absorbed the impact.

Who are the two insurance companies involved ?

wolf617 Apr 19, 2008 04:52 AM

Hey Chris!

I have Allstate and she's got USAA.

geeezz..just as your knee is feeling better, Otto gets hurt.

I hope the repairs go smoothly, and that you're both in tip top shape very soon.

That sucks big time Bill.... hope Otto heals real quick.... but like you said, how can you get angry at a Mom to be.

USAA has good claim service. I'm sure they'll take good care of you and your MINI.

If you have any questions about the claim process let me know... even if you ARE insured with one of our competitors. :sly:

I saw Otto's damage at the Tate breakfast this morning. Considering the damage to the Mazda, I'd say the MINI held up pretty well.

Sorry to see and hear about this, Bill. We know how much Otto means to you and I know I'd be devastated if anything happened to Barbarella.

Glenn

I saw Otto this morning as well.

I think it's time for a new JCW exhaust and body kit.
