[Sun, May 20th 9-10AM; 10:15 Depart] Maryland Civil War Trail Tour

[Sun, May 20th 9:00-10:00 meet] - Maryland Civil War Trail Tour

Please join us for this incredible run!!!

When: Sunday, May 20th. We will meet between 9:00–10:00AM for a prompt 10:15AM departure time.

Where: We will gather at the Starbucks at Milestone Shopping Center in Germantown , MD. Directions below.

Bring: A full tank of gas, an appetite, money for food ($20 should more than cover the meal), and a FRS or GMRS handheld radio (tuned to channel 7, subchannel 21) if you own one or a navigator that doesn't mind the twisties!!! If you plan to attend these drives regularly, I recommend getting a FRS or GMRS handheld radio… They are inexpensive and available at Costco, Best Buy, Circuit City and more… It's not a necessity but it does make it easier for all of us to keep in touch… Gina and I bought ours at Costco for $75.00 which included 3 radios, charging unit and earbuds…

RSVP: On the calender you are attending so I can alert the restaurant… Also, let me know if you are bringing someone with you so I can get an accurate head count...

Event Fee: Believe it or not – FREE… What a bargain…

Route: This route will take us through 2 little known tunnels following the Civil War Trail through very historic and scenic areas of Maryland … The scenery on this tour is breathtaking and the roads are VERY challenging… A break will be planned on the route ending at the VERY scenic PB Dye Golf Club for lunch and our meet… There will be some tremendous photo opportunities on this run so bring the cameras and/or video equipment…

The Dine & Meet: This time the Meet is just before, during and after the Dine at the golf club... We will have a lot of private parking at a VERY scenic spot for nice pictures... We will be able to stand around and chat without having to worry about being run over or being pressured to leave for the drive...

Questions? PM me or this thread! Everyone will get detailed directions the day of the event…

Directions to Starbucks Milestone:
Heading South on RT 270 from Frederick Area:
Get off at Exit 16 Father Hurley Blvd and turn left at the light at end of ramp… Take Father Hurley Blvd to entrance to Milestone Shopping Center on right… Pull into entrance and take first left or second left and proceed to Starbucks on left…

Heading North on RT 270 from RT 495:
Get off at Exit 16 Father Hurley Blvd and bear right on ramp toward Damascus … Take Father Hurley Blvd to entrance to Milestone Shopping Center on right… Pull into entrance and take first left or second left and proceed to Starbucks on left…

From RT 70 Baltimore Area:
Get off RT 70 at Exit 68 which is RT 27 Mt. Airy exit… Take RT 27 South through Damascus (stay on RT 27 as it takes a Right in Damascus ) and continue until you get to RT 355 Frederick Road… Take Left on RT 355 and proceed to first light and turn right into Milestone Shopping Center … Go to stop sign and turn right and you will see Starbucks…

From other areas: Use your GPS or favorite online mapping program and head to address:

Starbucks Milestone
20934 Frederick Road
Germantown , Maryland 20874
301-515-1084

Directions to PB Dye Golf Club for those just attending the Dine & Meet: http://www.pbdyegolf.com/about/direction.php

If you can not make the drive, please join us at the PB Dye Golf Club for the Dine & Meet… The tour will be arriving at the golf club at 1:00pm…

Gina and I ran the route today and had lunch at the golf course - Her Mother's Day gift... We hope to see a lot of our fellow MINI owners on this tour... The scenery & roads are nothing short of spectacular... A summary of the Civil History landmarks that we will blow past along the tour will be handed out with the traditional route directions... The golf club is beautiful and the lunch prices are very reasonable... Gina and I had a very nice lunch which came to $24.00 including tip...

This run is about 2.5 hours... The June 3rd run has a few of the same roads and much much more... June 3rd is a 4.5 hour tour...

You are welcome to join both tours...

radios

When we did the minis by the bay, I found that hooking my hand held radio up through the aux line into the stereo made hearing all the updates quite easy. Just a thought.

This is not a MINI only event... This is a Euro event... There will probably be about 45 cars (primarily Porsches) on the tour and as many as 100 at the meet... I know a Ferrari Modena is coming for the tour and meet... I've received responses from people attending from as far away as North Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Southern Virginia...

If I was the only one that showed up, I'd still do the run because the roads are that challenging and the scenery is absolutely beautiful...

If you like history, scenery and twisty roads - this is the run for you... It's a sampler of what the June 3rd run will be like but that run is over 4 hours and for MINIs only

We've had some excellent weather the past few Sundays... Tomorrow looks like another excellent day... I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones...

See you at Starbuck's in Germantown between 9-10am... If you're into history and twisty roads, this is the tour for you...

REMINDER: If you can't make the tour, please come to the PB Dye Golf Club for the Dine & Meet... The tour group will arrive right about 1pm...

See you tomorrow :D

I would love to tag along on this event.
Anyone have a free shotgun seat available for a MINI less owner?

My MINI is still sitting in a garage, over 6000 miles away. The airline i flew over on said it wouldn't fit in the overhead compartment and the weight was just slightly over its limit.

I'm sure if you show up tomorrow, there will be a seat in someone's car.

You can count on it. I am printing the google map directions now.

I've been cheating on "Twiggy" (MCS Checkmate) with a light blue PT cruiser. Its a rental, and the relationship is doomed to end in misery. Just means I'll have to give Twiggy some extra attention when i get back to Germany.

See you there.

Fantastic Motoring done today. Thanks for the roller coaster ride, JustJay and Janet (NAM Handle Unknown), a huge thanks for the tag along and chit chatter.

I can already tell the MINI "scene" is filled with some great people and events.

Sun, breeze, exhuast, and twisties, with massive hills. A great day indeed. Soon I'll be seeing you in the bends.
