R56 wheels for GS

Our G Stock R56 is built and waiting at the port. I know the SSRs won't accept the 14mm thread lug bolts. I have a basement full of R83s from our old showroom stock car but I would prefer to use something a lot lighter. What's out there?
Thanks,

gwalsh,

Here's an interesting option to use 12mm MINI wheels (M14-M12 conversion studs):

Thanks,
But stud conversions are not allowed in any of SCCA's stock classes (not even road racing).

I'd just have a machine shop drill them out. It should be pretty easy and not cost much. I know "motoring" was considering doing it. I'm surprised he hasn't replied yet.

What about SCCA solo rules 13.4 wheels?

In part used to read "Wheel studs, lug nuts, and/or bolt length may be changed."

It may not be in Showroom Stock, but it certainly is in Stock class Solo. Lug nuts, studs and bolts are free.

If you question the ability to change to studs on a MINI take a look at the conversion... the threaded stud is a bolt with a very small head.

As has already been mentioned, studs and lug nuts can be installed in place of lug bolts in SCCA stock Solo classes.

I can't confirm first hand, but I've heard that the 16x6.5" Rota Slipstreams have larger lug holes than the SSR's and will accept the 14mm R56 lug bolts. $500 shipped and about 2 lbs heavier than the SSR's.

You sure? The 14mm bolt I had fit without issue in my set of Slipstreams (which are for sale by the way ).

Does anyone have a final answer on whether the slipstreams will fit on the R56. If not what other wheel might be available to run in GS?

I guess the big question is the hub diameter staying at 56.1? I just measured a Slipstream with a M14x1 tap and it fit the hole just fine with wiggle room. The tap measured .556 wide on the cutting threads.

Hub diameters are the same. All of the factory (heavy) wheels cross over from the old car.

For what it's worth, faced with 14mm studs not fitting my 17" aftermarket street wheels nor my "Mark Chiles" race wheels, I simply drilled them out with an appropriately-sized bit. The taper holds the wheel, and very little of the taper is lost with the overbore. I've had no problems during 2000 miles of street driving and 16 autocross runs.
