Advice for G-Stock
Hey all,
i was wondering what advice anybody has to offer me about little mods that i can do to maximize performance while staying in G-stock...things like wheels and tires, cat-back, best spark plugs, drop in filter, anything that i should know that will keep me legal. I had an event this weekend and i came in third only to 2 guys in a Celica on Hoosiers, and i was on S-lites and worn Pirelli Euphori@s...i thought i did well...but id like to beat him next time.
Thanks,
Marco

I see you list Chicago as your location, where do you run events? I don't remember that car.
Seat time is more important than modifying your car but if you "have to", R compound tires will give the biggest bang for the buck.
Events left in the Chicago area this year
10-16 - Tri-State @ Miller Park (Milwaukee)
10-22 - Chicago, SCCA @ Route 66 (Joliet)
10-23 - Chicago, SCCA @ Route 66 (Joliet)
10-29 - Central Illinois, SCCA @ Rantoul
10-30 - Central Illinois, SCCA @ Rantoul
Tri-State and Chicago offer Street Tire class so you won't have to worry about some Celica on Hoosiers beating you That said on my way to the Milwaukee, SCCA "front wheel drive street tire" class championship I ran 6 events on "not the right" street tires and beat GS raw at every event. In other words, the driver does make a bigger difference than any Modification.
I'll be in the Pretty Blue Celica, Pro Class at Tri-State and GS at the Chicago events. Not sure if I'm going to Rantoul or what tires I'll be on if I do. If I do it will be only on the 30th and will be my 31st event of the season. Seat time, Seat time, Seat time.
note: I'm not the Celica the just beat you but my car looks a lot like Bill's.

i just ran an event at the South Bend Region tire rack event. Ive done tsscc events before, but i dont get out to other events much...i went to the tsscc event at grissom, earlier this summer, there was a test and tune, but i was only there to get seat time, i really didnt have anything to test and tune. Ive only participated in 2 events this season account of the lack of funds. Im a poor college student who somehow has a MINI... ...but yeah.

Get some 215-40-16 Kumho 710s. Throw them on a set of 16 x 6.5 wheels and you will have a blast. I must also agree that seat time is crucial!! Get tire pressure help from forum and find an auto-x school in the spring. In just my second event with the MCS (having come over from STS with a VW), I managed to finish 4th in PAX with the Philly region (don't make me name names... ) with a bone stock car riding on Rotas and 710s.

Admittedly GS does have a soft PAX and the 1-3 finishers were running in GS as well. They are all nationally known so it was nice to be at the top with them. It will be interesting to see how things unfold next year and perhaps I will regret not jumping ship from STS to GS sooner. There was a time not too long ago when STS was considered soft. Oh well!
