Aftermath of Nats - MINI DS bound?

What do you guys think? Doesn't look like the times would suggest that all MINIs belong in DS. Look at the Sentra as well, should be the new dominate car in GS with the right driver if the MINIs get bumped, I dare say even over the Civic Si.

I just wrote a letter, FWIW, to SEB with my thoughts. After competiting head-on with Tony Savini, Mark Allen, Greg Reno and other fast R53s, I'm not convinced that the R56 is significantly faster than the R53. It really comes down to driver skill and making the cars work based on driver style as well. Some tires showed significantly more roll than others, and that's fine if that's your driving style. A smoother style isn't necessarily faster than an aggressive style regardless of chassis.

the 16 vs. 17 debate can continue to go on. I didn't see any real disadvantage to running 17s, personally. I can't say that I would have made up a few extra ticks with 16s.

IMO, I'm not in favor of moving the MCS to DS. Perhaps the JCW package can, but there's no data on that either, but i'd be more in favor of it going if ANY Mini were to make the move to DS.

Their biggest issue is what to do with ALL of the DS/GS cars. Times were just too close between both classes. It came down to driver skill for each win.

Not all Minis. They're only considering moving the supercharged and turbo Minis to DS.

For me, I'm all for it. Putting my 2006 JCW in BS was pure insanity.

Oops I should've been specific on excluding HS in my original post. HS is of course safe and sound....in fact it seems to be extremely healthy with the variety of makes it's seeing.

I doubt they will make the move. The Sentra has shown that it can be competitve in GS. There is absolutely no way they will make the move this season and leave the Sentra to dominate. If they do, I will be very very surprised. ;-)

Has anyone suggested moving only the 2005+ cars to DS? It would make the 2002-2004 cars once again a car to possibly have. There is a significant time difference between the LSD and non-LSD cars.

Be very careful, you are making way too much sense! The SCCA would never endorse an idea that made good sense... The very idea that another class might be dominated by the MINI is unacceptable to them . For some unknown reason they refuse to recognize the fact that a FWD drive car with LSD is faster on a Solo course than a car that does not have an LSD, it would be beyond their comprehension to put those cars in different classes.
