235 onto 7?

No not a math problem with an answer of 33.57

I was wondering if at all possible to mount a 235.40.17 wheel up front on a R56 with stock rim size...or am i off my rocker here.

i noticed the BFG R1's come in the this size as well as the new R888.

No problem at all. Heck, I have seen a 275 mounted on a 6" wheel. lol I'd love to try the BFG's, but, cannot afford another set of tires that might not work. :-)

They'll fit, but this is what a 245 on a 42mm offset does to the front struts

And here's what a 245 looks like compared to a 225. I doubt a 235 would be much different.

Dan

Wow, you got them to work! Thats great, how do they feel? Your struts look like mine when I ran the 225 with my 48mm stock wheels. :-)

Honestly, Craig, I don't think they're worth it. They're barely wider than 225s, as you can see from the pics, but becfause they're SO tall, it does affect gearing quite a bit. very boggy. So do the factory struts have that indentation naturally?? nevermind the rubbing part, look at the actual shaft.

I have more pics here http://www.pbase.com/beagleracing/2007_mini_cooper_s

I've got some 235/40R17 R1s that I'm mounting up.....I've been using the 225/45R17 R1s and they seem to work pretty well, but the 235s are more like the 225/40R17 Hoosiers in terms of size, maybe a touch wider.

fwiw, 225/45R17 R1 have an OD (measured) of 24.4 on a 7" rim (vs 24.8 listed) and the 235s have a OD of 23.9 (not 24.4 listed).

Sounds good, those are some awfully tall tires. Yes, the OEM shocks do have the indention normally.

So it looks like you could have used a few more mm's on that clearence....

How much space is there with a 225 with the 42mm offset?

235 BFGR1 is the same overall diameter as the 245 Hoosier.

see, that's the problem, i'm maxed out at 42mm offset. anymore won't be stock legal. Without seeing some extensive tire testing, I have a hard time believing that the BFG R1 is faster than the Hoosier just because it's a 10mm wider tire. The A6 is a VERY hard tire to beat!

And Craig, i feel MUCH better knowing about those indentions! I thought it was the tire that did that! we had a BUMPY course a few weeks back when I was running them and thought something happened, so I ordered some regular single adjustable Konis as quick replacements (and cheap!)

I think the tire would be GREAT on a DSP car, but it bogs too much for GS.

I'm still confused

After reading this thread I still don't know if 235/40R 17's will fit on stock wheels? I'm thinking of R1s or Falken 615s. A6s are great but my wallet is not fat enough for them (or I'm just not committed enough!)

I'm not sure, I'm getting them mounted on my 43mm offset Enkeis today..which are 5mm further out than the stockers.

I fit 235/40/17 Yokohama Neova's on my 07 MCS. It completely depends on the exact tire, some are a bit wider than others.

Ok, 43mm offset Enkeis, 235/40R17 BFGs rub on the front struts and the rear arm. more than I care to see, so these will get shelved until I go DSP next year (where I can run a 17x8 with less backspace)

back to the HooHoos.

aw, are you really going to DSP? i wish NAM could do Polls so we could create a thread seeing who is going to stay with the Mini in GS/DS or who goes elsewhere

That's a really good idea. It would be cool to have an online roster of everyone who is running and what class they're in. Maybe if there was a field in the profile for your autocross class and if it was filled out you'd automatically appear in the directory. This way it would also auto-update every time you changed a class or something. Anyone know if something like this is feasable?

Well thank you for the info! I can take that one off my list for now.
