Wheel Paint Touchup

Happened to be away from home when I started getting low pressure warning on LR tire. Sure enough, found a nail in the tire. Did a quick search for tire shops and found one nearby. Drove there and they happily informed me they provide prompt flat repair at no charge.... So I'm thinking this is to drum up new tire sales...

OK, got the car back and now the wheel has scratches through the paint to the aluminum around the rim where the repair tool was used to unmount the tire. Wasn't happy about it, but since their 'policy' is to only be liable for the cost of the tires/repair, I'm out of luck. Fuming, but got home fine.

Warning to others: Discount Tire on Arapahoe in DTC, CO.

So, anyone know what the color code is for the dark/black glossy wheels is? Will order up touchup paint and do it myself.

Found a website listing various auto color codes, said mine was 'Night Fever Black Metallic color B04" I've looked on the Driver door jamb, under the hood, but can't find a paint label to confirm. Anyone know where to look? 2018 Countryman

color code 668 is the black that's been used for roof, mirrors and wheels since 2002. Astro Black

The corresponding white is 899, Aspen White

silver wheel is A54 Brt Silver Met

I'm using the Sherwin Williams Automotive color database for this information
IME the dealer database doesn't even list this color btw ....

I order small quantity t/up (brush bottle, pen or rattle can) from https://www.automotivetouchup.com/

note that the wheels are painted with the same two part paint system used on the body so you want to order the color BASE coat, and clear for topcoating

I have used these paints and the match is correct.

btw the NAME of these colors have changed over the years but the CODE and formula stayed the same. Formula tells the SW automated mixing system how to blend the color.

Here's a link to a table I posted on another site back in 2008:

ever played with t/up b4? If no, a couple of hints .... I'm assuming you ordered brush bottles

NEVER use the brush in the cap! Go to a craft store and buy a decent quality SMALL / FINE brush. Size 00 is nice and small. You'll want some mineral spirits for cleaning the brush too. If you have a long wheel scrape you may want something a bit bigger but still buy a decent art brush and ignore the brush in the bottle EXCEPT to transfer some paint from the bottle to a 'pallet' ... I use a business card to hold a puddle of paint and work the art brush from this.

Be sure your surface to be painted is super clean - a clean rag with some mineral spirits is a good final wipe.

If your booboo has left the rim rough get some fine sand paper and smooth things up (a Dremel rotary tool works too)

With the color ... multiple light coats is better than one thick one ..... otoh CLEAR needs a lil body for strength.

Bottles from Automotivetouchup tend to be a lil thin in consistency IME and this is WAY better than the thick glop that typically is found in dealer supplied t/up ......

good luck

you can find other hints in detailing section here on NAM or look around for some YouTube ... there's probably several thousand!
