Hi has anyone tried putting 20 inch wheels on the countryman? Would it fit?

 

I know there has been some talk and I believe they theoritically could fit.... I have a feeling you would be rubbing tire when taking a tight turn though... On the other hand, I'm sure it would look AWESOME!

Whatever is possible with a MINI has probably been done, and other things that aren't possible have nonetheless been tried. Expect to hear from some 20" wheel users.

Your question sent me to Tire Rack to look at 20" wheels for the Countryman. Theirs come in 8.0 and 8.5" widths (most are 8.5), with offsets ranging from 42 to 48 mm. Weights vary from 29 to 35#, and prices range from $190 to $1100 per wheel. The recommended tire size is 225/35/20, which is the same tread width as the OE 225/45/18 size that goes on the OE 7.5" wheel. The diameter is about .3" more. Thus, it should be possible to find a wheel/tire combination that doesn't rub.

The downsides would likely come from the shorter sidewall of the 20" tire; a rougher ride, and a higher probability of bent rims from hitting potholes. Wheel/tire weights would be greater as well.

 

Thanks Jim Actually I was looking at tire racks website too when I was thinking about it, but I am thinking I have 225/35/19 on my other car and I already bought an extra wheel because of the pot holes here in NJ , I am thinking a 35 series on 20 inch rims would be a little bit meatier, oh well I guess I ll wait till someone tries them out thanks

 

Put these on last spring. TSW Nurburgring 20"x8" in matte gunmetal. Hankook ventus v12 evo tires (225/35/r20) They look great but ride rough. got a nice ding after about 4000 miles. havent noticed any rubbing. the overall diameter of the tire is the same as stock so... shouldnt be a problem anyway. this summer im lifting it up 2" with countryman connection lift kit and wrapping the TSWs with goodyear wrangler 245/50/r20s. gonna get a skid plate and do some off roading... as far as my experience goes, worth the price if u dont mind the rougher ride and shell'n out to fix ding or two...

Those wheels look amazing! Great choice... When you say it rides rough do you mean unbareably rough? Or just a little harsher?

Its not crazy rough... actually its very similar to the stock run-flat type if ride. You gotta keep ur eyes peeled for potholes...

 

Makes sense... they look really awesome! Makes the whole car look... I can't think of a work but it's a nice set of wheels! I want them

Is it possible to run 17 in rims and tires on the front and 18 in rims and tires on the rear , I know I get the run flats with the new order but I want to buy a spare set up for a different look and ride your thoughts?

finally took a quick picture with the 20" is actually ride softer then my 17" runflat.

A better combination on a FWD Mini for handling and traction is to run wider wheels on the front. Some FWD autocross cars do this to reduce understeer. If you have ALL4 however wheels+tires should be identical F/R.

Eriktassmer sounds like an old lady who was in traffic school with me one time. She was at least 70 years old, and a real grouch. She went on a rant about why do young guys fix up their cars with flashy wheels and loud stereos and stuff. One of her exact quotes was "I don't know why they waste their money on that stuff, because it doesn't impress me at all." I felt like telling her the obvious: that no young guy with a modified car gives a rat's *** about what some crabby old lady thinks of his car.

Some people crack me up, they are so caught up in themselves that they truly believe that their personal taste is always the best. And the funny thing is that the people that do something different and original are always open minded and positive toward other's ideas. They are intelligent enough to realize that different people have different taste, and that the world doesn't revolve around them.

Yet the boring, grouchy people, who are content to be sheep and drive around in a car that is no different than all the others that rolled out of the factory, have the audacity to insult people who dare to be different. Gee, wouldn't the world be exciting if everyone drove the same old plain brown Camry or Taurus and they were all the same because nobody had the creativity to be different from the rest of the flock?

 

Who's the sheep? Every time I turn a corner it's some clown in a Honda or Hyundai with dubs and a fart can exhaust. Yea buddy. Real original. Kid lucks mini looks tight. Yours not so much. And my countryman is far from stock but it doesn't look like a rollerskate that I see all to often. You obviously drive the same car I'm referring too or you wouldn't have your panties in a bunch.
Oh on a side note the only reason I read this post is I was toying with the idea of 20s on my countryman but I wanted to make sure it didn't look like, well... Yours.
