Just a question for people running with 225-50-17 Non RF.. Wich air pressure is right for a All4 Cooper S with this size tyres?

i am running 225/50R18 michelin pilot super sports on my all4

i determined tire pressure using a tire pyrometer (thermometer) and ended up at 42 psi front 37 psi rear ... after 11,000 miles (with rotation every 4,000 miles) all 4 tires are evenly worn across the tread and all 4 tires are worn down the same amount

i did the same with the oem 225/45R18 pirelli p7 summer runflats and ended up at 42 psi front 36 psi rear

the mini recommended pressures are too low

 

for those of you with 17 inch wheels and oem runflats, i did the same tire pyrometer check on my sisters all4 and ended up with 40 psi front and 35 psi rear

You guys all run higher pressures in the front?
I actually run 2-3 lbs lower in the front. I find it makes for less understeer.
I do have a 2wd sport, standard shift and I drove Auto X to find my ideal pressures, but if any of you suffer under-steer, try adjusting those pressures.

I'm currently running 37.5 rear 35 front cold and it's perfect.
Having the pressure exact is key, so invest in a good pressure gauge.

Looking at 225/45/17 is it ok to swop out or rub

 

First I would like to thank all the great info I picked up on the various threads with regard to changing from RF to non-RF tires on my 2013 Countryman S. I dropped the stock Conmtinental RF's at 30k and put on 225/50/17 Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 tires. As many of you reported there are no tire rub issues. The ride, noise and road feel is INCREDIBLY BETTER. Like many said, it changes the whole driving experience for the better. Wish I would have done this from Day One. I would recommend anybody to do it. All the forum info helped me make a confident correct decision. Thank you all

 

Just got my set of 225/50-17 Conti DWS06 installed at Sears. They beat the Tire Rack price by the way. Nice tires!

Per the above link - "Tire Rack provides fitment guarantee on this size to be inside the wheelwell without rubbing."

Still, I would check dimensions before ordering... Some tires listed as 225/50-17 are considerably wider than others, and there is even some diameter variance I noted... as is the case with the CINTURATO P7 ALL SEASON PLUS (non-run flat) which comes in at 26.1" diameter, and very wide.

So for those whole are running the 225/50, how did the extra tire soften the ride and cornering? I am trying to decide between 225/50 or 225/55 but worried the 55s might add some squirm in the corners. I am on Conti RFs right now and need to swap tires before the snow falls as they are pretty worn. Small part of me wants the 55s because they will lower the revs a bit and I do a lot of 75-80mph highway driving. Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

 

I'm running 225/55/17 on stock rims. As you already know this will add about 1cm to your tire height. I did, however, had to inflate to 38-40 psi, to keep it from being too squishy. I haven't noticed more squirm and the comfort is just perfect.

On the highway they still very predictable and they do lower the revs just a slight bit.

I like the way they look and feel. I took these tires up to the twistys in bear mountain and they performed beautifully

 

Nice, thanks Manny!!! I just ordered General G-max AS-05 225/50's as I am lowered and realized I'd probably have to change my ride height if I went with the 55's. Tire rack gave great reviews and even though its a new tire I'm going to take my chances, Ive had good results with General in the past. Hopefully I don't have to change height even though these will be about a 1/2" wider towards the fender. Pretty cool service I'm using in NJ called Momentum Mobile Tire. Tire rack will deliver my tires to them and then they have a mobile van service that is going to come to my job and mount/balance/install/dispose for $88. Pretty good deal considering I wont have to waste time or sit around at a shop waiting for them to get done. They are doing my fiancee tires same day for 64$ (cheaper because 60 series tire).

Had the tires installed yesterday (General G-Max AS-05), have about 60 miles on them from my commute and it is a very nice tire. Currently running 40psi front 35psi rear and they feel very good. Much quieter than the runflats, my fiancee even noticed over the phone. Much more compliant ride as well, definitely takes the edge off a lot of the bumps I hit on the daily. Grip cannot be explored yet as they still aren't broken in but definitely have a nice weight to the steering and turn in is very quick. Clearance to my BC coilovers at this height it is very tight. Cannot fit a finger between the tire and the coil but do not see any signs of rubbing yet. Clearance to the fender not a problem. Hit a few big bumps while turning and heard no signs of contact.

 

Forgot to mention that there's a pinch weld that can rub on the rear tires under strong/hard turns or ****ed up roads and you would need to be fold them down. Simple vice grip and hammer or a big mallet.

Reporting back now as I just got the General Altimax RT45's 225/50-17 installed. (Was waiting for a replacement rim to come in)

Compared to the Pirelli RFs...
Positive: Very noticeable softening of bumps from small to large. Much, much quieter. There's a section of pavement near home that for the last 40k miles I was forced to hang up my phone because of noise with the RFs - dramatically quieter now. Sidewall is much further from the rim, which means better protection from all the parallel parking in San Francisco.

Negative: Less responsive steering. Which is to be expected with softer sidewalls. Not so much that it doesn't feel confident (Cornering feels very good) but certainly a bit less sporty feeling in the wheel.

Overall: Very happy with the switch. As a daily commuter that mostly my wife is driving, I am just fine with having lost a bit of responsiveness in exchange for reduced noise and greater comfort. Rain and snow traction is also expected to be far improved. Some people won't like the sidewall being out so far, but personally, I like it.

My 2019 MINI COOPER F60 comes with 225 55 17 Bridgestone Run Flat Tyres.
I want to be around an Inch taller and want to upgrade to 225 60 17 tyres.Would this be possible?.
Would this damage or affect my vehicle suspension in any way?,
Has anyone done this in the past?.Please advice & share your experience.Thanks.

 

you will have to go with 215 60(65 fits also but snug) to fit stock suspension from what I’ve read for a r60. Not sure if there much difference with the f60. Seems like 225 will be to wide with the larger diameter tire.

use this to help with the width. Going taller will fit in the wheel wells, but the trade off will be the handling and the suspension reaction and feel. The taller tire is going to feel sluggish in the turns, due to tire sway, and taking off from a stop (you’re adding weight to the wheels). Upside the ride might be less harsh (depending on the tire type).

 

Hello All,
I'm a newbie here in this forum.
I just purchased a pre-owned 2015 Countryman S where the previous owner installed Michelin Pilot Sport A/s 3+ 225/50ZR17 in place of a standard RF 205/55R17 tires. I did a simple comparison of the two different tire size; the 225 size is roughly about 0.5 inch wider than the 205. So my questions are:
1) Will the wider 225 tire cause added stress onto the suspension since the car's alignment was based on the factory 205 size tire.
2) When I get a wheel alignment in the future, is the factory setting ok to use with the wider 225 size tire.
3) The factory tire pressure recommendation on the label on the door calls for 32 PSI for F and R. Do I also apply the same pressure value to the wider 225 tires.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback this.

1- If they're non RunFlats then the unsprung weight would be minimal.
2nd- Wheel alignment to factory specs would be just fine.
C- Tire Pressure is preference. I found upping the Tire Pressure to 38-40psi keeps the handling crisp. This also varies depending on the ambient temp

 

I'm looking at some used wheels just like yours with 225/50/17 tires. My current OEM silver spoke wheels have 225/45ZR/18 tires. Will I be disappointed with the smaller wheel? I don't really like all that fender space either.
