I'd like to see a CM hit 168mph. The NERO is the OEM tyre on my wifes Volvo V70, they are good but it's a very soft tyre so don't expect much mileage from them before replacing them.

Well got the spare on the rim and we're now on a road trip.

The run flats have to go. Hit a few potholes in a construction zone, now I need to visit my dentist to get my fillings put back in... I hate these RF tires...

Now I'm keeping an eye out for any and all potholes, bumps, even color differences in the road... These RFs will kick you around if you think too hard...LOL...

Other than that, LOVE the car. When not off roading on the highway with RFs....the car handles and performs great.

Hurry up and wear out RFs... Can't wait to get rid of you....

Wait, if your still on the runflats, why the spare?

Even without I tend to think a spare is really not needed, with TPMS, a plug kit, and a bottle of slime your covered for 99% of any tire problems, the exception being a blowout, which is why we have free roadside assistance.

I agree 1000% on the runflats, I'm going to swap them out come the fall for either Nokian WRG2's or Conti Extreme contact DWS (only two tires I love as all seasons).

Quick, related story, My R56 was a lease and I was letting my wife drive it this winter, cause I needed to keep the milage down. She hit a pot hole with the runflats, thought nothing of it. Brought it in for service a week later and there was almost $2K worth of suspension damage (I didn't even know) luckily insurance covered it. I am pretty sure if I was running regular tires it would have just been a bubble, or at worst a blowout.

My R56 suspension damage went to $3,200 with the RFTs and it counts against you as an accident.

I'm really getting to be on the fence over the RFTs. Not much choice in the 18-inch range.

The reason is that we're on a road trip... From my understanding, not all shops will repair RF tires AND some don't carry them. I felt better having a spare... AND when these RFs are done, non RFs are going on the entire car. So I just got the spare up front.

MiniBlue2 and JudgeS
God I hope there's no damage. Wasn't at high speed but it certainly seemed like a hard hit. Then again, anything with these RFs seems bad.

Well as long as it makes it back home safely the mini dealer will get to check it out... It seems to track correctly, no strange noises and nothing strange on the rims or tires. Steering seems true.... Bumps aren't clunking or anything..... Fingers are crossed....

Guess it adds to the experience, watching for gopher holes in the highways.

Play around with tire calc, there may be another size that will work with more options, thats what I'm doing with the 17's, tires I want do not come in the OE size, going with a 225/50R17 I think, as long as they fit the rim (still waiting for someone to try).

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Your usually good with less than 1% difference +/-.

JudgeS..As you know I swapped out the R/flats when I replaced the 17" with the new NM Eng. 19" wheels. Because of size 235/40/19's, I was limited to 4 tires. I narrowed it down to 2..the Pirelli PZero Nero and Continental's ContiSportContact 3. Ended up with the Continentals from the recommendation of my tire guy. Nothing wrong with Pirelli's he mentioned, just had more of feed back on the Continentals, but again that was in response to them on 19" wheels. Awesome handling…wet or dry pavement.

I have 18" Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and they have been great. Not the cheapest tire though.

Any issues with rubbing (I would think not), I'm figuring if 235s are fine 225's on a 17 will not be a problem, as long as they fit the rim (not sure of the width on the 17's yet)

As far as the tires both are very well reviewd, only issue I've ever had with Contis were that they bubble real easy (ContiSportContact2s I think were particularly bad), although I think they've improved a lot in that department, I was running ContiExtremeContact DWS, on my allroad before the flood, and they were great, no issues at all with one of the most pothole ridden winter/spring in some time.

No, no rubbing issues at all. I am looking into some type of mud flap protection…now with the larger wheel/tire…I am getting more exposure especially behind the fronts. Was not a problem with 17's. Just don't necessarily like the look.

Ok so there will certainly be no issues with the 225/50R17, now just have to verify they will fit on the OE 17" rim, anyone know the rim width?

BTW Fred, why did you go with the 235/40R19 over 225/40R19, the 225's are much closer to stock rim size (2.0% vs. 0.8%) when compared to the OE 17s?

Just looking for a little more width…without having issues. Not that there is that much more of a difference between the two.
So you are staying with 17"s nit moving to 18's ?

Exactly, my days of swapping wheels are over, these north east roads are unkind, specifically here in NYC. 17's are much better for all four seasons, if I was getting another set just for summers, I'd go with 19's though.

Well just got back from Boston... 20 hours round trip and the mini rocks! EXCPT for the RF tires... They are about to be history... HATE those things....
A slight dip from a man hole cover feels like the earth opened up and bit my car. What the heck is WRONG with Mini putting that crap on my car????

Gonna talk to a few more people and make sure about the NON RF tire choices and then, swapping them all out...

The car overall, got it broken in and it really noticeably smoothened out... it felt different in a great way on the trip back. Things seems to mesh way better... LOVE the car! Hate the RF tires but absolutely LOVE the car!

Just curious as to what nonRFs you ended up choosing. Don't even have my countryman yet, but I'm thinking of swapping the tires out when it gets here. Thanks.

I ended up getting the Continental Contac 3's, 235/40/19. Mounted them on the 19" Aluminum Nuespeeds built for the Countryman. No spacers/offsets needed and accepts OEM lug bolts, center caps. Purchased 4 new TPMS. Left the original 17" wheels, tires and TMPS as a complete set, either to sell or for winter use.

Bought one Pirelli PZero Nero and put it on the spare rim, which is exactly what is on the car. Running the Rfs for a little longer just to/from work etc and then the Neros are going on for the winter and beyond.

Talked to someone who put these ion a mini and said, extreme grip... Wonderful experience. But only gets 20k on a set... I'm good with that..

So yes, will be putting these on...

I had P Zero Neros on my 2000 Impreza 2.5RS and they were ok at best. Not that great on wet roads, horrible in the snow and decent on dry roads. Like someone mentioned they wear pretty quick and also have soft sidewalls. I would go with the Continental DWS's, or Bridgestone Potenza RE960's.

I had a set of PZero Nero's on my BMW, they aren't great in the wet and ok in the dry.

I wound up replacing them with Advan S.4's after I had two blow out on a pothole near my parents on Christmas Eve (that was a nightmare).

I love my Advan's Excellent in wet and dry conditions.
