Factory wheels - can they be used with "traditional" tires?

There are some old threads here and on other forums that refer to the standard wheels that MINI provides with their runflat tires (which I guess nowadays is ALL tires) as somehow being different from wheels for use with traditional tires. These threads talk about having to replace the wheels if you want to replace the runflat tires with traditional tires.

Is this true?

I'm specifically looking at the 18's, but I would think that this is somewhat a generic question. Can you put non-RunFlat tires on factory wheels that originally came with RunFlats?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can use non-Runflat tires on any MINI wheel. They are not made specifically for Runflats.

Wheels the same...

as the first reply said. While now getting very common and soon universally required, run flats traditionally required a TPMS system be installed while of course conventional tires didn't. MINI's would have that TPMS anyway, and the OEM rims are set up for it--basically a flat spot milled on the inside of the wheel near the valve stem to accommodate the sensor housing.

I know of at least one member who replaced the run flats on his Countryman with traditional Michelin non run-flats. Should be no problem.
