Countryman turbo swap yes or no?

I have a 2011 mini countryman s. It currently has a manic stage 2 tune with an akrapovic dp, wagner intercooler colder plugs, nm intake. Want to get to stage 3. It has some good power, but i would like to see if i could get more. Dont want to mess with the engine internals so thinking about upgrading my turbo. Good idea or no? If yes what turbo. Or what else would i need to do this thank you.

You really should read some stuff. It's (generally) not as simple as "swap the turbo WHAM! POWER!"

From my own research:
1) N14-N18 engines are not that happy if you push the turbo boost pressure above 22 psi, which means forget about any power close or above 300 hp without a K04 turbo

2) If you do a K04 swap, you will need modifications on the oil supply and cooling system. And you will most likely need to change the pistons and rods for reliability

3) Even with all that stuff, your valves are not that strong to withstand huge pressure increases.

SO, get a faster car A VW 2.0 liter on an Audi or VW would give you much better results with much much less money than trying to push your CM to the limits.

Also, if you're ok with a clean(ish) 250 hp (on the crank), you can do all of these above (forged rods, pistons, maybe meth kit) with a K03 hybrid (like JMTC 42mm or a JCW turbo).

PS: I am not saying you can't get power above 250 with a K03. I am saying, for me, it's not reliable enough. My .02

Upgrading internals is to be on the safe side but it doesn't guarantee that you'll blow your motor. On the other hand, there are plenty of R56 guys who have bigger turbos and running Manic software etc. You need to search a bit. Not that hard to do.

A good example on how to blow it up is this:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...an-review.html

That guy blew it in less than 2 months I believe. The other Mini forum has more stuff on it. You can google his user name.

You should do some research yourself on meth kits (more on R56 section) as I didn't use one and can't recommend one over the other.

What upgrades did you have to do for the stage 3? Did you have stage 2 before? If you did any major difference?

I had stage 2 before with the stock turbo and meth. When I bumped up to the JCW turbo, I had to go stage 3. Obviously intercooler, down pipe, exhaust, etc.

I too upgraded from the stock S to the JCW turbo. I haven't dyno'd before and after but the general consensus is a 20-30 hp gain. Eventually I'll put it on a dyno but it's not high on my priority list nor are the actual numbers that important to me. I love the way it drives. Simple bolt on affair, did it in my garage in an afternoon. Forged internals not necessary especially with meth injection.

RMW does offer a modified JCW turbo which is supposed to get to about 300 hp. Recommends forged internal though.

I have been running my GP2 at 22psi for 15K and a big turbo for 10K. 300whp with over 50 Dyno pulls, it's one of my daily drivers I will be doing a big turbo and big valve head with meth in my new JCW CM next month. mQubed Motorsport, Manic Tuning Dealer

what all did you have to get that power? I'm trying to get more power without ruining anything or having to take the engine apart.

Honestly im not sure but with the downpioe intercooler and cold air intake and the stage 2 tune you feel a whole world of difference. More exciting more fun to drive, all you want to do is step on the gas But its totally worth it My manic dealer (euro techs in Phoenix, AZ) did it for me in town. He first let me drive it with the stock map then he switched it to the stage 2 tune with the switch and drove it again, and it was amazing :D. Don't forget to do your spark plugs too, he recommended using plugs from an evo 8 because thats what he found works really good and they work amazing.
