Denso's Installed

I just installed Denso Iridium Plugs in my Mini, and what difference it has made. It runs smoother, excellerates better. I am going to test them out on a 600 mile trip on Monday.
My mini is a 2005 and just rolled over to 30,000 miles. I felt it was time for new plugs anyway.

They are nice plugs and probably a good time to change them.

Do make sure you torqued them to the right spec and check them after some miles to make sure.

I had the Denso's for 30K and liked them a lot. I replaced them with NGK Iridium. I noticed a difference... don't like the NGK's as much. I bought another set of Denso's (IK20). Will install them soon.

What is a good time to change plugs? I've never changed mine out in my '02 and I don't think the dealer has either.

I changes plugs at 30,000 on all my cars no matter what the factories say. Fresh plugs are always a plus. It is on maintance thing that is fairly cheap and the returns can be very good. Better gas milage, lower emmissions, better alround performance.

Mine are on order.

As Yucca mentioned be very carefull when installing them. Make sure they are done to spec and check frequently . There have been quite a number of minis that have spit out their plugs and it can get costly. If you do spit a plug and take it to the dealer they MAY deny your warrenty as you have installed aftermarket parts.

*silly question alert!*

I assume they come with the specs?

What do you mean specs?

What do you mean by, specs?

So the IK20s are the ones for us? What torque (in ft lbs) should they be installed at?

It's on Randy Webb's forums... ~22lbs I believe, but don't take my word for it.

adame Jan 25, 2006 10:53 AM

excellent - I'll try to find 'em. Thanks.

I have had a hard time gettin some of these plugs so far. Autozone carries them...but the worker at the autozone by my house is a MAJOR tool and WONT sell them to me. I asked him for some Denso Iridium IK20 he keeps asking me for what car. problem is in their computer that plus doesnt come up as fitting our cars... he keeps sayin he needs a part number to cross reference.. I said the part number is IK20..just walk in the back and find the boxes that say IK20...not so hard. but he wont even walk in the back and look lol ive been in there twice now and he will not give them to me..im about to punch him in the face with a rock. ^___^ sorry had to vent lol

Hmmm - that's weird. Find out what other car they fit in and tell him it's for that car instead.

Hulles Feb 1, 2006 07:09 AM

yeah, im gonna try a different autozone at lunch today...if that doesnt work then finding what other car they fit is the next plan of attack ha

There is a different number for the IK20's. I bought them from Autozone but I can't remember the number. They do have the listing. Just have them look up your Mini and have them open the box with the plug in them. IK20 is written on the plug.

I had them look up the mini, but he says denso doesnt make a plug for a 2005 mini cooper S other plugs come up, but no denso. I said well..I know they fit so just grab those. but he insists on looking it up, and needs the part number for the plug in my car to cross reference with denso. I said even if that works..what your gonna come up with is IK20..soo...just get those. lol but hes a big pile of hot garbage with a glass eye and wont do it. (yes he has a glass eye lolz)

mdsbrain yeah ur prolly right..I should just order them. I had hoped to save on shipping and grab them the same day...but that aint happening haha
