Best resonator to silence modified exhaust
Currently I'm running without the OEM resonator nor the OEM muffler.
I replaced the OEM resonator with the Vibrant UltraQuiet. I replaced the mufler with a (very short) glasspack muffler No drone at all. I was happy with the sound but when I travel many kilometers on the highway, over 2500 RPM, I listen to the exhaust instead of the music. It's a nice sound, but the volume is too loud after 2 years with this configuraion... What is the best brand resonator that I can install (2 inch) to get my MINI quiet again? I intend not to install a muffler, just a good quality resonator. Any advice will be very appreciated PS: It is a Mini Cooper Base |

Key to resonators being quieter and drone free is to get them long as possible. I didn't choose vibrant because its too short (9 inch I think) and went with the tubular magnaflow version that was 14 inch. but I don't recall them making them that small in 2 inch size. They only make 2.25, 2.5, and 3 inch diameters.

Glass Pack muffler not a good idea as it burns out pretty quickly thus giving you no resonance control. I would go with the front muffler that the Mini JCW uses since its a long style muffler and tightly packed with sound resonance material far more and better than any after market solution. The part number is 18308608933. You can check the part number on bmwfansinfo if you want to see it. it installs at the bottom of the downpipe after the first cat.
I could see the 18308608933 is around $800 plus shipping. I'm not ready to spend that money on mute the car but I will be checking the 18308608933 resonator specs to find another one similar in quality and cheaper... |

I think the techs at the exhaust shop could adapt an in/out 2.25'' resonator to my 2'' exhaust... |
