R56 MC retro fog lamp

...As you in currently do not have foglights, and went to swap in and properly wire in foglights?
You're in for some serious wiring and parts conversions as the electrical runs through the 'footwell' module inside the cabin.
Assuming you're wanting OEM parts, you'll need the toggle switch for the dash, along with the wiring harnesses.
After installation, you'll need someone with a NCS Expert to reprogram the footwell module to accept foglight control and remove any bulb warnings.

Alternatively, you can install the oem fog lights and wire them to an aftermarket switch in the cockpit. You could put that switch on the knee bolster to the left of the steering wheel in the position normally used for the driving light switch. That's the way I installed mine about a year ago. The fog lights are normally triggered by a relay connected to the low beams. FWIW, you can install the lights without removing the bumper by removing the headlights and working thru the wheel well. The right side is easy but the left is complicated by the windshield washer bottle. You have to remove the bolts holding the bottle and pull it out of the way to get enough clearance to insert the fog light from behind. You will need the fog lights, a relay, an inline fuse, wire, a switch, and aftermarket connectors to connect to the fog light bulbs. Good luck.

I'm wondering if the wiring is similar to my old e39 BMW's rear fog light circuit. In that car, the wires had to be run from the rear bulbs directly to the light control module. From there a wire had to be run to the rear fog light switch. No programming was necessary, but the switch would activate the LCM and illuminate the cluster light as well as light the rear fogs. The only way we can find out would be to get a wiring diagram for the footwell module and someone willing to give it a shot.
