K&N Apollo 57A 6033 install on 2011 non S
Hello folks who may be interested. I installed a k&n 57a apollo on my 2011 mini cooper non S on Wednesday afternoon. Removing the stock air box was quite easy. It's pretty bulky but obviously does what it's suppose to do being a OEM part. The k&n Apollo is a slightly different situation, the hose that comes with the filter is simply sub-par!! I had to drive to Kragen to by a Spectra intake hose and that worked out. Aside from the crappy intake hose issue "flex hose" the install was fairly straight forward... except for one thing.... the MAF sensor! "the F!#*^$ computer wasn't adjusting to the extra air"?? wouldn't allow the fuel compensation!?!?... as in more fuel to air??...
I followed the included instructions and after all was said and done I started the engine, it idled for a few seconds and DIED! I went over everything point by point, rechecked the instructions manuel and to no avail Frustration set in very fast and I started contemplating putting the stock air box back in. I thought of one more sort of option and unplugged the MAF... then I started the engine and YEP! it started up and idled like the stock air box was still in the engine bay. I took it for a test drive and noticed a more likable throttle response and sound similar to a aftermarket exhaust... BUT! the computer is certainly letting me know that the MAF is unplugged I may return to my stock intake setup "I don't wanna". We'll see. SO... has anyone out there installed a after market intake on a 2011 R56 non S and experienced this issue? THANKS IN ADVANCE.
